Title: Legal vs PE
Post by: Nataliaelias on July 29, 2016, 10:20:16 pm
Which subject is easier to do and get study score of 40? I haven't done 1/2 subjects for both legal and PE

I did 1/2 PE last year and did very well, could've done 3/4 and my teacher said it would result in a very good study score if I kept up the work ethic. I ended up choosing specialist maths and part of me kind of regrets it.

I would say PE, the subject itself is easy but a SS above 40 suggests that you put in some real work throughout the year (SACs and coursework + practice exams), didn't make easy mistakes (with a subject like PE little mistakes add up quickly) and do well in the exam.

I am a little biased since I haven't done Legal but the most beneficial person would be the teachers at your school. Let them try and explain how you could get a 40 SS in Legal and the students here. And make sure you choose a subject that you enjoy, a subject that interests you will always produce a better SS than one that you force yourself to do but don't whole completely enjoy
Edit: Defs the students on here. Some of the legal students on AN are SS legends :D :)

recommend legal. did it last year and i had difficulty in remembering somethings in the exam and sorta made up points (for the last question particularly) but they fit logically and were well reasoned and i did relatively well- plus its interesting and makes listening to the news easier as you understand what cabinet, ministers, hung parliament etc. is and how they function :) content was not even that heavy, crammed it all in the week vs psyc/bio which might take a few more weeks to remember the content to the same level (more content in those subjects imo)! never took P.E but wish i did, love fitness and bodybuilding and it would've fit really well, but yeah!

I do both PE and Legal. I would probably say PE even though I love Legal. Legal it is very easy to approach the question wrong and even though you fully understand the content you can loss simple marks. It may depend on what your other subjects are, I don't do any science but I have heard it does cross over a bit with Bio. Honestly it depends on what you like the most. It is much easier to do homework and get a good mark if you enjoy it.

Having done 1 and 2 PE last year and 3 and 4 Legal this year, PE is the better subject by far.
Legal is extremely repetitive, learning a concept, being able to describe it, then being able to evaluate it. The topics are also very very bland and boring, Eg. The constitution and Parliament, and the course contains none of the criminal law studied in year 11. Your teacher is barely required, as they just set readings and textbook questions

I cannot speak highly enough about PE though. Very interesting, and if you are a keen sportsperson, every concept you learn applies to sport in one way or another! It does overlap with some science, but not in great detail.
My advice is to go with your passion! If you are a sporty person, or have an interest in the human body, PE is the one for you. If you watch crime thrillers (unfortunately legal isnt nearly as exciting) and like to keep up to date with current affairs, I would choose legal
