Title: Aussie music
Post by: Chavi on November 19, 2010, 01:05:34 pm
Hey, I'm trying to find some local bands to listen to. Most [english] music these days comes from the US or England. If anyone has any cool Aussie bands, post 'em up. And no pseudo-American accents plz  ;)

I'll start off.

-The Cat Empire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtFxo4mpiKg

-Blue King Brown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSVOV7xqTEQ (damn gender specific songs!)

-The Ray Mann Three (just found out about these guys. Bloody awesome)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_YuLbYO5SM

-Hilltop hoods
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqCyTM1bF6Q

-Powderfinger
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ1-bZBlnzM

-John Butler Trio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VAkOhXIsI0

-Empire of the Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmM2RwlxGt0

-The Potbelleez

Extra points for underground and indie bands

Kate Miller-Heidke. Gorgeous voice; quirky tunes and lyrics. Though I've no idea whether or not she's still going strong

Hmm, should have actually put my Dead Can Dance thread here then

Not a fan of Aussie indie, not that I have heard much. The Avalanches, Seth Sentry and Sleepmakeswaves are some stuff which immediately comes to mind. Never really delve deep into it much

Give Nick Cave and Dirty Three a shot

Used to listen to Josh Pyke, but then again, I've no idea whether he's still current

Jet ... they're awesome live and yeah being a fan, I'm going to have to make a suppressed list.
Actually ... also, watch the Japs go crazy for them here lol: do it do it do it do it. Watch it till the song change at least, heheh that song works on every crowd. Other: Jet's lead singer + Muse + AC/DC cover = win

I guess I should mention Wolfmother and The Temper Trap too.

Tame Impala, Little Red, Cloud Control, Blackchords ... Cut Copy, The Living End
An assorted mix of sounds there if you bother to click on any. Yes.
