Title: HSC w/ a stresshead {class of '19}
Post by: meerae on January 24, 2019, 12:29:38 pm
hiyaa,

So I was reading a ton of these instead of actually studying and now I'm inspired. So lets see if I remember to update this and everyone can witness my journey which will probably result badly. So, I stress out about everything, if a teacher sets a quiz, ill freak like its a formal assessment being sent to NESA...

I do 4u English, 4u maths, economics and legal and was accelerated in 2u math.
I band 6'd 2u math, which was great but now it has me freaking out about keeping 4u - math is usually my worst subject as I failed year 7/8 math and was always told "if it involves math, you're going to fail" so this whole math thing is all about proving myself... But I feel that keeping 4u is going to be detrimental to my ATAR - and I don't know if I should keep it or not but we'll see.

Doing both 4units was the hardest struggle to get happening - my teachers tried everything in their power to get me not to do it and keep business studies (but I absolutely couldn't stand business), but that only made me want to do it more, I feel that I'm better at maths and English than 'other' subjects. After fighting with my HSC co ordinator I was finally allowed to do it but it isn't the easiest thing - English x1 runs at the same time as math x2, so I'm always recording one lesson at sitting in the other (the Hermione jokes never stop). I've been spending more time in maths as I'm stronger in English, actually now that I think about it I hardly ever went to English...

My goal is to do B Laws/B Com at USyd - which is hella competitive and I probably won't get into it, but we'll see how that goes, and ATAR wise I'd be ecstatic with anything 95 and over.

After the first term my marks were pretty decent but I definitely think I can do better;
English Adv - 84% 19/73 (it was an oral presentation and I cried for weeks about this mark)
English x1 - 100% 1/12 (another oral presentation, I honestly don't know how this happened)
English x2 - Not done yet, but I have a viva in like two weeks that I'm stressing the hell out about
Math x1 - 68% 1/14 (it was perms and combs, induction and binomial theorem and I genuinely think they're my best topics)
Math x2 - 53% 3/12 (complex numbers and polynomials, again, probably my best topics)
Legal Studies - 95% 1/58 (this was like four essays in 90mins, but I really enjoy legal - its like my life)
Economics - not done yet, have it in two weeks and its 3 questions + an essay in an hour - shouldn't be too hard right?

I'm doing only one major work - which I see as something 'fun' and 'relaxing', hopefully it stays that way. Hopefully, I can update this whenever something 'amazing' or 'upsetting' happens and it'll be fun to read this at the end of the year.

Thank you all for reading - hopefully my journey is fun and something to remember,
meerae  :)

Always nice to see another high school journal up and running. Hope you update this regularly! :)

By the way, stressheads unite! *high fives over internet* Used to be an absolute stresshead. (It's better now, although I still count myself as one.) If you go back and check through my Year 12 exam period posts, you'll see some posts I made where I made analogies between me and headless chickens. (Seriously.) Totally get where you're coming from.

*high fives back over internet* I have always been soo horrible, no one even talks to me on exam days because my stress is contagious!!
Hopefully it gets better by HSC time because I can only imagine how I'll be  :-[

Hi!

I just wanted to say good luck for this year. You will get through it and it'll be over before you know it. Trust me, I'm sitting here thinking about the first day of my job and I didn't know I was going to be doing that this time last year.

I really hope you update regularly, it's really fun reading through other peoples journey's! Good luck!

I'm so keen to hear how your journey goes, remember you don't just have to update when something huge happens, I know I for one enjoy hearing about all aspects of people's days/lives even the most mundane things people do, so feel free to talk about anything on here! I know I do! It will be amazing to look back not only at the end of 2019, but in a few years time and reminisce about the experiences and memories you had, and 2019 will definitely be an unforgettable ride for us all!!

So today marks the end of week 1... for me it was only a day but it was pretty eventful. I didn't realise how much I missed school and I am super glad to be back.

I spoke to my maths teacher about dropping maths x2, but I still want to keep it despite the fact that it could drag my ATAR down. I'm having a meeting with my HSC coordinator next week, I need to decide what I'm going to do soon because I don't want to stress about something that I am considering to drop.

On the bright side, my eng x2 assessment got postponed to week 3, which gives me more time to work on it and to study for my eco assessment which is next week Tuesday..... I'm kinda stressing out for it because I want to come first and its pretty competitive, but we'll see what happens.

I met my new eco teacher today and he's nice, hopefully he can help me achieve a band 6 for eco, which is something I am aiming for.  I have 12 free periods a week, which is amazing, it gives me a lot of time to 'study'. I usually waste time during them and can never find myself actually studying.. any tips on how to actually be focused and use this time wisely?

I can't really think of anything else to update on today, but I am really excited for this year!

Hey!! Super glad you enjoyed your first week of school!!

I read about your dilemma about x2, and to be honest, I think you should keep trying until you REALLY feel like dropping out. Because for me, I thought all along I was going to drop accelerated 2U maths, but I kept going. Even though I got an average score (82, just gave up two weeks before the HSC), it turned out to be incredibly rewarding. Then again, we are talking about 4U maths, which is MUCH MUCH harder. Talk to you HSC coordinator, and make sure to update us on your decision!!!  :D :D :D

I totally relate to wasting study periods. For Yr11, I just mucked around with friends the whole time. It was great, but I guess if I decided to spend more time studying, I might have gotten better marks. For this first week of school, my first period was a study period!! Sitting down, I first asked myself: what can I do now that my future self will thank me for? Super deep question, but I tackled it down to brushing up on chemistry calculations, and for most of the study period, I ACTUALLY studied!! It was amazing, although I did eventually stop during the last ten minutes. I guess asking yourself this question will give you a sense of direction, and has worked for me so far.

Again, thanks for sharing your journal with us!! I hope you have a great week of school ahead!! ;D ;D ;D

Hey Meerae,
(Coming from someone who didnt have any free periods in year 11/12), have you tried assigning a subject to study for each period?

Writing “to do” lists are also quite helpful for prioritising study & homework. Focusing on getting one small task done at a time can really help with staying focused. They can also provide some hearty satisfaction as you tick items off! If you get through all of your list, revisit your notes or try some past paper questions. If you print off a few full past papers and leave them at your study space, then you could work through as you have time.

Another tip would be to allocate yourself small study blocks (like 15-20 min) with a small break in-between, to build up motivation. Through this method, eventually you may find that you don’t need a break after every block, as you get used to the rhythm.

Hope this gives you a few ideas!

Hey!
The worst thing is, I thought I'd do bad for 4u and just drop it, but I am coming 3rd, which made my decision much harder! I'll definitely update you on my decision! I'm planning to make it before the assessment task because I don't want to sit it if I am going to drop it.

In regard to study periods, I will definitely try that out tomorrow!
Thanks so much! Have a great week as well and good luck for this year!

Hey kauac!
The to-do lists sound extremely enticing, I use them at home and they help get things done. I don't know why I never thought of using them for school. Giving myself breaks usually never works as I tend never to get back into the grind of getting work done, especially when my friends and I have the same study periods.
But will definitely give it a go and let you know how it goes!

Thanks so much!

So I have eco today and I am freaking out but im trying to "turn nerves into excitement" or something and be confident in what I've studied. A lot of the grade got lazy over the TWO MONTHS we had to do this task and have left it to the last minute, hopefully me doing It in the first week and having about a month to learn the content and whatnot will work in my favour.
I hope the questions are ones Im more confident in as well... But we'll see what happens! I'll definitely update after school!

Also, I am allowed to use powerpoints for my viva! But I'm also expected to printout a handout of an extract of my short story (which isn't the best story). My viva is next week Friday and I have to start preparing from today onwards!

I have tried using my study periods to actually study yesterday, and it worked, I also found if I sat away from everyone else, I'd be less distracted and would get tons of work done!

Hey!
I have no idea, but I think its in the top 150 :)

peace out,

Hey, meerae!

Glad to hear that the PowerPoint presentation is allowed for the Viva  ;D It'll make everything so much easier. As for the short story, don't worry if you think it's not your best work! In your Viva, you can reflect on your progress so far and even critique yourself briefly for the story. Explain why you feel it isn't the best representation of your Major Work potential and provide the marker/s with an action plan. Tell them with conviction what you intend to do to improve on it and where it will be heading after the Viva  :) I am more than sure that it will go well  ;D

I have tried using my study periods to actually study yesterday, and it worked, I also found if I sat away from everyone else, I'd be less distracted and would get tons of work done!

Also wanted to put it out there that you could allocate specific subjects to your study periods! I did this during my HSC and it helped me manage my time a lot better. I would assign an equal number of study periods for each subject (except Visual Arts because I did that after school) and complete work during them to avoid having a ridiculous amount of homework for more than one or two subjects  :) Usually, I would put the subject that immediately preceded my study period in that block so I can complete any homework, work on my assignment and write up any study notes right there and then when the content was still fresh in my mind  :) This was really helpful in the long run and eventually, I began to be more flexible with my study periods because I just knew exactly what my priority was for the coming study period and worked with it. Hope this is something useful you might consider  8)

Looking forward to hearing how Eco went! Do let us know  ;D

Just got home from my eco exam, it went fairly well.

There was one question that was a bit of a shocker, but thankfully it was one I asked in the forums, so I had it answered by Emily!
I have a legal essay due this Friday which I have to start working on ASAP, but I will definitely be taking it easy today to recover from this exam. I also need to start practicing for my viva and make the powerpoint and fix up my extract. We still don't know the panel of teachers that'll be marking, I hope it's English teachers that I am comfortable with and isn't in front of a large audience.

I also met with my HSC co ordinator today, and we went through the pros and cons of dropping each 4 unit as well as the effect it'd have on my ATAR. I'm definitely leaning towards dropping 4U math, but I have until the end of the week to decide. Will let you all know what happens!

Hey Angelina!
Congrats on teaching at tutesmart! I was hesitant on joining the Sunday afternoon class, but now that I found out its you, I've changed my English class! For the viva, I will definitely add in a bunch of critique for my excerpt. I really hope it goes well!
In regard to study periods, I was actually considering doing this especially because I have so many free periods. Will definitely give this a go!
Will let you know how it all goes!

helloooo

So, today was pretty uneventful but I thought I'd just check in.

I have come to a decision about mext2, I am going to keep it for this term and if I do horribly/cant handle it with my other units, I will drop it.
I have also been using my study periods extremely effectively now! I made a timetable where I dedicate each free period to a subject and work to check off to-do lists that I have to complete by the end of the week!

This has been working really well for me, especially for English x1 as a lot of it is more 'in your free time' work.

Thats all I really have to update on right now!

peace out,

heyheyyy

So yesterday was my viva voce for x2 English, and I think I went alright, I am happy with my presentation and the panel said my idea and concept was really good. So I guess we'll see how I do when the marks come in.

Nothing major really happened this week, I have been using study periods more effectively and have been studying 3-4 hours after school each day.

I also get my eco marks next week so ill update when those come in, I really hope I come first!
Thats all I really have for today!

peace out,

So week 4 (I think) just started and we're hoping to get economics and English x2 marks back today.
I am kind of scared. I have also been sick the last few days which has halted my productivity.
I talked to a 2018 graduate yesterday who did x2 English, and the highest mark at my school last year was just an E3, so now im kind of considering dropping to 10 units and not doing any x2s.

This week I set a few goals for each subject which I hope to meet;
Legal
- Fix and finish crime notes, add all relevant cases and format it nicely
- Finish a crime essay and submit to legal teacher

Eco
- Fix and finish topic 1 notes, format as well
- Begin doing past HSC questions for topic 1 (my school gives us a complied booklet of all these questions)

English Adv,
- Finish up mod A context and comparison notes
- Begin finding textual evidence that proves my comparison

English x1
- Finish analysing the last 2 Emily Dickinson Poems

English x2
- Write 1000 words for my major work

Math x1
- Finish the HSC questions for integration
- Be upto date with HW

Math x2
- Graphs.

Lets hope I meet them all. If I receive my marks today, expect another entry!

eco is in - 30/35 ( 86%) 3/26

x2 English has been delayed until the end of the week
kind of unhappy about eco, definitely expected higher.

Hey, Filly!

Thanks!
I really enjoy legal, its definitely one of my favourite subjects. In regard to past papers and the new syllabus, I only have English adv and x1 to worry about, and I have just been making my own essay questions from the rubric and attempting them, my teachers have also given us practice papers to help us out, because its a new syllabus and theres no past papers, im hoping they mark leniently.

Glad you're enjoying it!

hello everyoneee

I received English x2 - 27/30 (90%) 2/5

Although the mark is extremely good, I am seriously beginning to consider dropping down to 10 units and not doing both my x2s.

I've also been setting weekly goals again as it really helped last week

Hello everyone,

So I just saw I haven't been active in the past month, I have been soo busy with school and my leadership extra curriculars I have barely had time to watch TV shows.

Last week I had English and Legal, which were the worst two subjects to have in the same week (I kept telling myself, all I had to do was get through last week because it was hard) - I wrote about 1500 words in 45mins for English and about 2000 words in 70mins for legal. Kind of proud of myself tbh

I submitted x1 English today, and while I am not as confident with my essay, I am content with it.
Tomorrow I have x1 Math and I am just super excited to see numbers to be honest, overall the topics aren't the hardest (especially because I found perms and combs good)

Next week I have eco, which is the subject I am most scared for, simply because I am least confident in it.

Subject wise - I have officially dropped mx2, which has given me so much time to focus on my other subjects.
Stress wise - I have been getting better at dealing with it, and hopefully by the end of the year I won't be that bad.

Lately, I have been hitting all my weekly goals and hitting about 5-6 hours of study a night, while still maintaining 8-9 hours of sleep (which is pretty impressive if I do say so myself)

I am so excited for this term to end, and I am ecstatic for the holidays so I can read books that aren't prescribed!

peace out,
meerae :)

Heyhey,

Quick update as a bathe in my sadness, tomorrow is the last day of term and I am excited to end what I feel is the worst term I have had in my entire schooling life.

I had eco on Monday and it was a fairly good exam, I walked out quite confident and expect quite well (Also, got 9/10 for the MC - lost one mark for the stupidest reason)

I received English adv marks today and am quite disappointed in myself. I received 78% and I am quite scared to check my ranking. I have put my essay up to get remarked as I feel the effort put in did not reflect my mark but we will see how that goes.

I believe if I'm lucky I will get legal tomorrow, which apparently I will be happy with (as reported by my legal teacher). And should receive everything else by Monday (I am the most scared to receive math x1 as I don't believe I passed the exam).

Wish me luck for tomorrow!

Thanks Jamon! Means a lot - I got 29/30 in legal and was the only person in my cohort who got 20/20 for the essay component.
Currently, I have remained first for legal and I only need to keep it up for two more tasks!

I received economics and am third overall but came second for this task with 47/50.
English extension 1 has also come up and I am now second overall as well as for this task, I got 21/25.

Currently am only waiting on mx1, which is probably going to be the worst mark of the term.

I can't wait for the next two weeks and have planned to go to all 5 days of the lectures, hopefully nothing comes up! Right now, I am watching a tv show and relaxing so I can begin Monday with my study schedule.

peace out,
meerae :)

Have you managed to get to any of the lectures so far? :)

Hihi,

Received maths x1 yesterday but forgot to let you all know, I got 65% which wasn't too bad, but compared to my peers could've been better. I'm now 5th for maths :/
Overall, I think last term was my worst term yet - but its good grounds to improve on for my upcoming terms.
I have parent-teacher interviews next Wednesday, kinda scared for what my parents are going to hear - especially from my English teacher.

Have you managed to get to any of the lectures so far? :)

Hey, Joseph!
I went to the first day and got some amazing info from Emily for English, and the law panel was extremely helpful.
I sacrificed going yesterday and today to lock myself in my room and finish my MW for x2 English - which is way harder that it sounds.

peace out,
meerae :)

hey meerae!

I'm back to your journal, and it's been a whole lot of fun!! I mentioned in my journal I'm adopting your 'goals of the week', it's bound to be sooo useful I think! How do you go about setting specific goals you actually can achieve in that time? And FANTASTIC JOB on your results, and doing so incredibly well in legal and economics AND ENGLISH EXTENSION! That's super impressive and motivating, truly, you should be really really proud of yourself! How are you so adept at it all?!! What are your fav tv shows? I'm really keen to know you plan out your weekly study schedule as well, and how much study you do on average each day.

You're really inspiring ⭐️

hey, mango8!
Planning my goals on a weekly and daily basis has been amazing for my productivity! When I set them, I try to make them realistic as possible, so I look at how much I completed the last week and try to either match or do a little bit more.

Thank you so much, I feel that those are the only subjects where my effort reflects my marks :) However, I definitely feel that I can improve in all my subjects

In terms of being adept at it all, I honestly don't think I am, I still feel that I can do SO much better in all my subjects, especially since I have become such a big procrastinator since year 12 has started (and I wasn't really one before).

In terms of fav tv shows, I am a big fan of game of thrones (I cant believe there's only one more episode until it ends forever), peaky blinders, dynasty, parks and rec, b99, gossip girl, outlander and I feel if I look at my Netflix ill probably find so much more. I'm also a big MCU geek, I can talk forever on all my theories. What about you?

I plan out my weekly schedule by doing two subjects a day + homework/any assignments, which adds up to about 3-4 hours a day and on weekends I try to do all my subjects + homework/any assignments which adds up to about 6-8 hours a day. This excludes Sundays as I spend the entire day at UTS for tutesmart.

peace out,

Helloooo everyone,

so sorry for literally neglecting this space. I have about 8 weeks until my first English trial and I am starting to freak out because I have been doing literally nothing and have SOO much to do...

So to bring you all up to speed, I had my last eco task before trials last week and I am super confident about the essay component, I predicted the exact essay that came in so I was over prepared and had way too much fun writing the essay in the exam.

I have legal and math x1 next week, and English adv and x2 in week 9. I have to edit my x2 major work and draft out my reflection while also write my CCP by week 9 and I haven't begun doing any of that...

Also, I made a nice little list of everything I have to do before trials, but I've been procrastinating soo much. I can sit all day and watch HTGAWM or The Office but I can barely clock in an hour of maths.

Today was a public holiday; I managed to do about 3 hours of maths and an hour of legal. I'm planning to watch Hamlet tonight for x1 whilst also work on my adv English essay so I can produce a draft by the end of the week.

Weirdly though, I still haven't received my x2 lit review mark and am still waiting on that, which I'm going to check up on tomorrow to see when we're getting that back.

Overall, I wish I was more productive but I feel like I'm getting towards the final stretch and it's making me way lazy. Any tips to regain my motivation, especially with the 3 week break coming up??

Okay, I'm off to do a past paper for maths! Wish me luck.

peace out,
meerae :)

Hey! So glad you popped back to your journal, can't wait for future updates ;D

I don't know about you, but the feeling and thought that trials are like 56 days ahead is kind of scary. I guess what we can kind of do is just to study (obvious I know).

In terms of motivation, there is this really good video:
You should watch the whole thing, it's so valuable. I love the part about motivation especially, where even if you feel tired you just keep pushing, just keep going.

Hopefully that provides some helpful advice on motivation!! I know how you feel about losing productivity, I haven't done much during the long weekend, feel so guilty :-\ :-\ :-\. Anyways, I've think I've got back to regular studying right now, which is great!

BTW out of interest, what is your maths extension 1 class upto? My maths ext.1 class only has 7 people, of which 6 have already completed the 2U course last year, so my teacher is teaching the 3U course and we are almost finished (upto to binomial probability, and circle geo is left to do). Although RIP for that one guy who hasn't, he has so many gaps in his knowledge in 2U and 3U maths.

Another piece of advice I found so helpful (boosted my productivity up so much) was not touching any social media or youtube for the whole day unless I have completed my goals. So when I don't feel like studying, I can't access any social media, Netflix or youtube, so I just become soo bored until I actually start to work. Right now, I just resist the temptation too watching youtube or any social media, but if the urge is too much, then I'll use a website blocker (cold turkey app) to block it. It's been really effective for me, because if I don't feel like studying, I just sit there with nothing to do, and I'll become so bored that I'll start to do work. Try it out, it might be of use to you ;D ;D ;D

Good luck for your paper! Hopefully these tidbits of advice are really helpful to you!

Hey, r1ckworthy!

Honestly, even as an accelerated student, I'm still sooo scared for trials and English right now is my worst mark, so I'm really relying on trials to boost that mark :/

Right now in ext1 we're just about to finish the course with further applications of calculus, we're finishing up SHM and projectile motion this week. My whole ext class is accelerated 2u except for one person as well, but my teacher has really tried to have us at the same kind of pace as the 2u class so it doesn't make the non-acc person confused.

I'll definitely check that video out and the social media tip! I'll let you know how it goes!

peace out,
meerae :)

heyhey,

So we got eco marks this week, I got 28/35 for the task, coming 4th for the task but still 3rd overall. I'm not too happy with it but I lost all my marks from doubting myself in the MC which sucks.

I also had legal this week and I feel pretty confident about it, hopefully I do super well in that.

Next week I have x2 English, adv English and x1 maths so I'm pretty excited for that.

I have a three week trial period from the 5th of August and I'm freaking out about how I'm going to study and get everything done, in the spoiler is my trial timetable, and its pretty similar to my HSC exam timetable.
Spoiler
5th Aug: English Paper 1
6th Aug: English Paper 2
13th Aug: Legal Studies
15th Aug: English x1
16th Aug: Economics
23rd Aug: Submission Day for x2 MW
26th Aug: x1 Maths

I'm off to write adv English now.

peace out,
meerae :)

Ahhhhh, hello everyone

Legal was super good, I wrote 25 pages despite kinda injuring my hand from WRITING the day before, I got 39/40 and am coming still coming first with an average of 97%. I'm so happy about this because legal is my best subject and I absolutely love studying for it, I only have trials now. I am also considering doing a sort of guide of stuff Ive learnt on effective studying habits for legal, but we'll see if I have the time.

I also received my English x2 CCP, I got 14/15 and am still coming second by ONE percent :(

Right now, I am waiting on English Adv, which I won't be getting until first day back next term because my teacher likes to give feedback before the marks and math x1, which I am kind of worried about because everyone found it so easy and I had troubles in loads of questions.

I've been sticking to a study plan that I created for these holidays, which includes waking up and doing an x1 trial each day and then doing notes/writing essays/editing my MW during the day.

I'm aiming for 85% in my trials across the board, excluding legal where I have high hopes for a 90... maybe 95?
I think I am aiming WAAY too high, and my study habits aren't reflecting the marks I'm trying to do, but I really am trying to balance work with relaxing.
Which is why a typical day is; breakfast, math x1 trial, one of my tasks, break, lunch, another task, break, dinner, last task of the day, break.
but it feels like I waste so much time, especially because I don't measure my study by hours, except by how many tasks I accomplish in the day (which is usually 3-4, including my math trial)

Tomorrow, I have the English Adv lecture and unfortunately, its the only lecture I can make in this series, which absolutely sucks. I was so excited to learn something from Isaac for eco, but instead I have to send a friend to take (hopefully) extensive notes for me, so that I can still kind of learn something.
My school is being super supportive and is holding holiday classes throughout the next two weeks for us, which is super amazing and so far has been a great help.

Thats all I really have to update on for now

Peace out,
meerae :)

Hey Nick!

So far, I've been pretty good at sticking to it, especially because ive put it in a 'to-do' list kinda form, so it makes me super happy to tick off tasks when they're completed.
Hopefully I can stick with it for the next week and a bit so I can have a great chance at acing trials.

Okaaaaay after neglecting this space for ages, I have decided to come back.

So trial period was not as stressful as I expected it to be, either that or I'm getting a lot better at managing my stress (which I really do owe to my amazing head English teacher and all the motivational speeches). I was really worried that trials was going to totally ruin my marks and my ATAR was going to go down a drain, but I was wrong.

Our trial period went for 3 weeks and a day. I only mention the day because I had an exam, and it was my last every internal exam. I began my HSC journey with a math exam, and ended it with one... which I find kinda symbolic and stuff (but it could just be the English student in me).

To fill you all in with what's happened over the past three months;
I handed in my English ext2 major, and was told that my reflection was pretty good, but I am personally unsure about my actual major, and marking is super subjective, so lets hope for a high band e3, but an e4 would be amazing because then I wouldn't have both eco units count to my ATAR....

My worst rank in trials was 5th, for math ext 1, which im personally very proud of. And I think I ended both trials and overall intervals pretty well, just need to pull through for the next two weeks (personally cannot wait).

Unfortunately I have not graduated yet, or had my formal. My school waits until after HSC exams to get both of these things done, so I am still counting down the days to actually officially graduate :(

My trial marks were;

English Advanced - 91/100 (3rd place)
English Extension One - 43/50 (2nd place)
Mathematics Extension One - 70/100 (5th place)
Economics - 84/100 (1st place)
Legal Studies - 92/100 (3rd place)

I am most disappointed for legal, as it was my worst mark all year, and I didn't even find the exam that hard.
These marks put my final internals at

English Advanced - 88% (7/62)
English Extension One - 89% (2/12)
English Extension Two - 93% (2/5)
Mathematics Extension One - 69% (5/12)
Economics - 86% (2/15)
Legal Studies - 95% (1/58)

Overall, I'm pretty proud of how half this whole journey ended, now I just gotta push a little more and (hopefully) see great results on the other side.

I think majority of my stress comes from English advanced, as I really want to band 6 that and extension, I just hope I can replicate what I did in trials in the HSC, even if I feel like I can't

So, good luck to everyone for the next month, absolutely cannot wait to finish!

peace out,
meerae :)

Okay so there is about 60 hours left until English paper one...

I wish I could say I was freaking the hell out and I am so stressed I can barely study, but for some reason I don't feel anything like the way I expected.
I genuinely expected to be so stressed that I could barely talk and I'd have to bring out some  Bach or something to calm me down (worked before legal, don't @ me), but I don't feel like I need any of that, I made a nice playlist on Spotify and the second I feel my heart racing, I just put it on and let myself calm down.

I worked on memorising common module content all today, I plan to do mod a and b tomorrow and do common again on Wednesday, hopefully that all works out and I don't procrastinate like crazy (which has weirdly become a thing a week before HSC?)

I feel like I'm not stressing out as much as I was last year because I've done a HSC exam before? Like I know how it feels and I know that its not too different from our normal internal exams, also the fact that I'm sitting a new syllabus is weirdly comforting?

I feel like I'm freaking out more because my sister is going to watch Love Island before I can on Wednesday/Thursday night...

I feel like if I can just repeat what I did in my trials I'll be fine, and I think I can do just that, just gotta work for a little bit longer. It also helps that I've been helping the rest of my cohort and giving them advice/helping out, which helps my understanding as well.
I also don't have another exam until English Ext one (which is on the first of November, so I get to chill a bit)

I will let you know if anything gets worse in regard to my stress hehe

peace out,
meerae :)

There is almost 12 hours before my first ever HSC exam.

I know that I've technically done an exam like this and I shouldn't be stressed but I am really beginning to psyche myself out. My English teacher left two weeks before the HSC, so I've had little to no help and have been freaking out because I haven't prepared the same way I did for trials.

I can't sleep, and am trying to watch Love Island to fall asleep, but it just isn't working and I know I shouldn't keep reading over my stuff because its just stressing me out. I don't know what to do at this point and am really feeling the pressure.

It's like all the stress I didn't feel gradually the past week is all coming now and I have no clue how to handle it. I'm really hoping I'll be better tomorrow...

Just wanted to update on the stress, we'll see how the exam is tomorrow...

peace out,
meerae :)

hey Laura!

was planning to update everyone this morning before I begin my grind for the rest of my subjects.

Okay so paper 1 was an absolute nightmare, there was no visual text (which my teacher had actually predicted) and the unseen texts were so farfetched when paired with their questions I was confused as hell. I don't feel confident in any of my answers and almost didn't answer one of the 5 markers as a mini essay, which I had to fix in the last two minutes before the exam was over, so I didn't get to read over my essay.

The essay part was........... um, decent. All essay questions were a 'to what extent' and needed a personal pronoun, which was annoying. I did 1984, so the question looked at loneliness. but no one is ever alone in 1984 because of the tele screen, so it felt like the question was so irrelevant and I started freaking out a lil bit, all I did was use my preplanned themes and just adjust them to talk about how they result in loneliness, hopefully that works :(

Paper 2 was a lil better but it was still pretty bad, the mod a question was applicable to all texts (just like I predicted), and had like three questions in one, which made my thesis a little longer than usual to ensure I had every part of the question included in what I was trying to prove. the Mod B Eliot question was exactly what my teacher had been preparing us for and so I was able to write one of my strongest essays, but when it hit 40mins I still had to talk about Magi, so I had to leave this essay and move on to Mod C. I rushed mod C so that I'd be able to go back to my Eliot essay and finish it, so I cut my discursive a page short to finish mod b. After the exam I realised I technically didn't continue the quote in my discursive and in part b I didn't explicitly compare my use of language to my prescribed text...

Overall, I'm glad its over and now I have a week and a bit off to prepare for the rest of my subjects :)

peace out,
meerae :)

Everyone is finished now, I finished about a week ago (and still cannot believe I am actually done).

I had all my exams in a week, and didn't find many major curveballs in them, lets just hope my hard work pays off.

It's just a waiting game now until results & atars are released on the 17th... cant wait!

How exciting! What are you doing with all of your free time? ;D

I have literally been lounging around the house doing nothing, and occasionally going shopping. I plan to go to school today to watch my sisters assembly and I am highkey enjoying the fact that I'll have the chance to catch up with my teachers...

I think I should find work, but I am really enjoying this time where I literally don't have to stress or think about anything.

And the fact that I haven't officially "graduated" from my school or had my formal isn't helping.
My graduation is next week and I am absolutely pumped, I cannot wait to see my whole cohort get together for the last time ever.

Congrats on finishing!!   :D

Thank you!!

Thats all I really have now so peace out,

So I realised that I totally forgot to update this when atars and results came out - I was honestly so upset with my performance for weeks after they came out and barely spoke to anyone.

I have now sort of come to terms with my marks and although I wish they were higher, they represented the effort I put in and I definitely could've tried harder.

So I got;

English Advanced - 89 (this took the longest to come to terms with to be honest)
English Ext1 - 45
English Ext2 - 34
Math Ext1 - 46
Legal Studies - 96
Economics - 85

Which equated to an ATAR of 95.85.

I found that, as expected, I don't test well, and my internals literally saved me. I knew I'd be horrible in exam situations as I overstress and cant seem to focus. Something I definitely need to work on before uni starts though.

My dream course definitely changed over the course of my HSC year - and I wanted to get into a B Commerce/B Advanced Studies at Usyd, which I did (thankfully).

Although every single ATAR calculator I used predicted something above 96.4 (which I would've been genuinely happy with), I am proud of what I achieved and am really excited to start uni this year.

Now I can finally close the horrid chapter that was the HSC.

peace out,
meerae :)
