How does the duration given for light exposure in Elodea affect the number of bubbles produced?

Title:
How does the duration given for light exposure in Elodea affect the number of bubbles produced?

Materials:
o 8x 20cm in length Elodea
o 8 rocks
o 200mL of room temperature water per Group o 1x light source (Lamp)
o 8x 250ml beakers
o Black paper or cloth
o 1x stopwatch
o Pen/Marker
o Ruler
o Lab coat

Method:
1. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment – a lab coat.
2. Fill 8x 250mL beakers with 200mL of room temperature water and label beakers with the
experimental groups (15 minutes with light, 20 minutes with light, 25 minutes with light) and the control group (15 minutes with no light, 20 minutes with no light, 25 minutes with no light).
3. Measure all the Elodea for 20 cm when stretched against a standard ruler.
4. Set up the light source for the 15-minute experimental group (light) and wrap black paper
around and on top of the beaker leaving a small peephole to record the number of bubbles
for the control group (no light).
5. Using the rock to prevent the Elodea from floating up, place the Elodea in both the 15-
minute light exposed group and the 15 minute no light group.
6. Using a stopwatch record the 15 minutes.
7. Allow for one experimenter record the number of bubbles produced within the 15 minutes
for the light exposed group and another to record the number of bubbles for the non-light
exposed group.
8. Repeat the steps 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 for the additional control and experimental groups.
