i heard studying all of those subjects is considered suicide but they're the only ones that interest me

It is quite a lot to handle. This year (Year 11) I was doing Maths Applications, English Literature, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Psychology. Now I dropped Chemistry for next year, because even though I was doing very well in the class and tests, I need time to bring up my Lit and Psych scores.

I have friends who do all the subjects you do except for Bio (because they took study period) and they are still feeling overwhelmed. It would probably be better for you to see which subject you are the most uncomfortable with, uncertain about, or just dislike after seeing the content and consider dropping it.

In the end, though, it is your choice so just do whatever feels comfortable for you. Don't hesitate to let something go in order to enjoy the next two years more or to do better in other areas.

Good luck mate.

disclaimer: I'm not doing all these subjects so this might not be very accurate

My friend is doing the subjects except mainstream english instead of lang, and she's doing pretty well (she's so hardworking though). I think it is definitely possible to survive this subject combo, but it would definitely require insane amounts of time and effort. All of these subjects scale up, so they will be harder than average, but at least your dedication will be rewarded with lots of scaling and most likely a high atar.

Since they interest you, it should be fine as long as you work hard. Although despite being interested in a specific subject's content, the vce format might make it less enjoyable and lead to a lot of stress. Maybe look at the study designs and see what's expected.

It would help to complete two subjects in year 11 (popular ones to do are bio/methods/physics), so you're left with only four in year 12, which would make the workload far more manageable.

You could always try out these subjects next year, then change subjects if it's too much (unless you need it for uni prereqs)

I hope this could be helpful in some way. Good luck with your studies!

I did those subjects this year, except for eng lang I did mainstream english. I would say the work load was definitely a lot, and what i ended doing was neglecting physics entirely such that i didn't study at all for physics throughout the year, but that was a sacrifice i was willing to make to make sure i did better in my other subjects. But if you want to do well in every one of your subjects, i suggest you start before the school term starts hahah or time will fly by very fast and before you know it you're sitting your exams. Good luck!

im in year 10 next year and would be doing methods 1/2 and bio 1/2. if I were to finish 3/4 of both subjects by the end of year 11, would that significantly help my workload and make those subjects easier to bear in year 12?

Hi!

In short yes! Definitely doing 3/4s earlier in year 11 if you can is one of the best choices you can make. I did Bio 3/4 in year 11 and I realised i would have never been able to do Bio this year in year 12, because it was very heavy on content. Also doing Methods earlier will be advantageous if your doing Spec as well :)

i did similar subjects in yr 11 this year, but mainstream english instead of eng lang and 3/4 psych instead of physics.

at the end of the day, i would recommend choosing subjects you are interested in; advice you've probably heard before.

for reference, i was taking 20th century history instead of spesh in semester 1, and quickly realised the subject wasn't really tailored to my interests. since i became so disengaged with the subject, the workload seemed much more strenuous than it really was, and i honestly had no motivation to complete set work.

after picking up spesh in semester 2, although the workload was similar to history (if not more demanding as i was catching up on sem 1 work), i found it so much easier to complete tasks for the subject because i actually enjoyed the content.

spesh and methods also really compliment each other (and I'm sure physics does as well) - i noticed my methods average increased by about 5-10% after picking up spesh. chem and bio also help each other in some aspects too, regarding pieces of terminology, chemical formulas, etc.

i find the overlap between subjects does better my understanding of concepts as you're hearing it multiple times, which helps to
lessen my workload to an extent.

anyways, that's my two cents - i reckon doing subjects you aren't as interested but have less of a workload could be just as demanding as taking 'content heavy' subjects that you are interested in.

Hi there,
I also plan on doing a similar subject selection (methods, specialist, Chemistry, English Lang, and German). At the moment I'm doing Bio 1/2 in Year 10 and plan on continuing its 3/4 in Year 11. Will it be a good idea? I am passionate about most but I'm not sure if I should do English language or regular English? Also, I'll have to do German online through distance education.

Hi,
I'm going to year 10, and my school allows us to only do 1 VCE subject, so I'm doing VCE Biology.
In year 11 I'm planning on finishing 3 & 4 Biology and as for the other subjects I'm thinking of doing English, Literature, Math Methods, Specialist Math, Physics and Chemistry.
Would it be too much?
Should I not do a 1 & 2 of a subject to lighten the study load in year 11 and then do a 3 & 4 of it in year 12?
