I'm In!
correspondence though?
[/quote
Hmm, I feel like this would progress way too slowly for a tournament structure and be too variable - as in, one match might take 12 days, another 25.
(On a personal note I think it's a pain in the ass, the lack of continuity is frustrating).
I'm happy to set up a correspondence tournament, though, if that's what people would prefer.
(Also signed up on gameknot - looks cool).
Correspondence will take way too long, I used to play it and it can really drag on, especially if somebody refuses to concede at the endgame. Just give people 3 days to play their matches etc.Yeah that's a good idea. A window for each tournament stage.
Anyone keen?
The way it would work:
People interested would (preferably) post in this thread with something like "I'm in", or you could PM me, so I can get a pool of people. Depending on the quantity in the pool, we'll play an elimination tournament towards the "Grand Final".
We'd probably play on chess.com, pretty good, free site that doesn't glitch. The people who enter the pool would have to give me a few dates/times that they're keen to play, and I'll match people up, so on and so forth until the end of the tournament.
Is this something people would be interested in? Thoughts/suggestions?
Cool! We've 7 people so far.Make it 8!? 😁
Make it 8!? 😁Doneskies!
Doneskies!i don't mind :D
Would people prefer an elimination tournament, or one where everyone plays everyone else and we tally up the total wins and losses?
I'll play
*A wild taiga appears*
How about the players can organise with their opponent which site they play on?Yeah, I think this sounds most reasonable. Regardless of site, it will have to be a live game though.
then we could post the results on this page. :D
In, sniffed this out from a mile away haahah

Hmm... I'm not sure how good everyone else is here but in my case I'm most likely only going to get one game if it's an elimination tournament, so a round robin tournament might therefore be more fun for the weaker players. Perhaps there can be a bit of a finals though for the top players, in which the game moves into a knockout tournament?Yeah I was thinking that, too. If the top four are really close they can playoff or something. I'll buy the winner a Crunchy.
...it will have to be a live game though.I've already started two correspondence games against these players though.. will they not count? :'(

I've already started two correspondence games against these players though.. will they not count? :'(Oh, yeah, I figured we were just playing around in this game for recreation :S, I thought the tournament hasn't started, and I agree that time controls should be uniform ^^. I know chess.com allows the viewing of play. I haven't yet played live chess on gameknot so I'm unsure if it has the same function.
I'm in :D
Will there be some sort of countdown clock? As much as I buckle under the pressure when this happens (I lost my first ever chess tournament game this way by forgetting to tap my clock lol) I think it will make for a speedier game that won't drag on for too long, minimising the chance of someone having to forfeit the game due to an interruption or whatever.Chess.com functions with a countdown. How long do people want? 30 minute total move time per person, or 45 minutes each?
I'm definitely in!Awesome!
Should we get started then? That depend on whether you're prepared to lose!? ;)
Cool, so we'll have pairings and updates on this thread, hopefully? We'll have 30 minute time limits, which means someone could take 10 minutes to take one move, but they would be wasting a valuable resource.
Just one more question - should we have a small increment (e.g. 3 or 5 seconds) per move?
I'm looking forward to it!
So erm...how is this working? I don't get how I'm meant to play my opponent.Oh, sorry! I mentioned on page 1- but basically, I thought instead of me messaging the pairs and imposing times or whatever, I'd just leave it to people to PM between themselves and organise a mutually acceptable time. So - I'd get in contact with your opponent and swap usernames on a chess site that allows 30:30 time limits and play!
In fact, I'm home all night, so someone fight me to the death.
Game on, Ned Nerb! :DIs there a way to watch?
Game on, Ned Nerb! :D
Umm, I just received a phone call with some not too good news; I don't think I'm going to have the time to take part in this anymore. The 11th player can take my spot so the tournament doesn't get interrupted. My opponent and I haven't played yet. Ugh, I knew something like this would happen.Okay, no worries, Stick. Hope everything works out for you!
Hey Ned Nerb, I'm just a tad confused on how to actually set things up on chess.com. I've got an account ('roentgenium'), but I'm not sure how to challenge a specific person to a live 30 min game.
Thanks!
Ah OK, thanks for the clarification! No worries!
