Hey guys!
I achieved a raw score of 46 in Latin in 2015. I'm willing to help future Latin students with any queries about Latin itself, or anything pertaining to the VCE Latin course.
Given the inactive nature of this board I thought I might try to liven it up a bit and provide future resources for students.

Quick query: does it help if you've seen the unseen prior to the exam? ;) jks jks, congrats on the awesome score! I think that's a great service you're providing Elucidator.

Hahaha well I'm not going to say it didn't help, but given the performance of my school peers I wouldn't say it's instrumental to doing well ;)

Any tips in general for latin next year? 46 is a freak score well done!! How did you study for part B of the exam? (the what feels like 1000000000 lines of latin of which we need to know the context, content and literary devices)

Is your username an anagram for Euclid-ator?
oops that's classical Greek not Latin.... close 'nuff

Generally I'd say that it's never too early to practice doing unseen translations. At my school we did weekly unseens starting in year 11 and being exposed to many authors and styles allows a great deal of familiarity with Latin prose in general. Also there are heaps of obscure grammatical constructions which are much easier learnt after getting them wrong the first time :P
For section B there's no real easy way around it hahaha. My notebook was filled with annotations about comprehension, literary techniques, scansion etc. However I actually found this sort of analysis fun so it wasn't too painful for me. The rote memorisation of the text itself was painful at times though.

Also did you read the whole aenied? Or is that a waste of time?

Personally I didn't - Knowledge of key events should be more than enough (end of Aeneid 12, understanding of Dido etc). In the end you can only use this knowledge in the Themes section of the exam, but often times they restrict your answers to a certain passage/book. If this happens and you refer to another book in the Aeneid they won't award you extra marks.
