Title: Should I start learning Latin in Year 10 via Distance Education?
Post by: sheldonbean on February 11, 2018, 09:43:48 am
Hi guys, I am currently in Year 10 and was wondering whether or not it is a good idea to start learning Latin in Year 10 without any prior knowledge of the language. Is it possible to learn the language in 3 years and achieve a good score on the exams?

Thanks for any suggestions.  ;)

It’s certainly possible to learn Latin and be at a good standard for VCE within three years, however it will be difficult and require a lot of work, particularly since you will be doing it via distance education. The main problem is going to be learning enough vocabulary to do unseens without overusing the dictionary, and learning all the extensive amount of grammar required. You will be behind most students unless you are able to do all this within the space of a year, as most school finish learning basically all of the grammar in year 10, and spend the last two years focusing on seen skills and unseen technique.

In my opinion yes it's very doable but distance education is a pain.
