Title: Unsure if I should do Latin for VCE Unit 1&2
Post by: petrifiedofvce on January 04, 2021, 07:31:37 pm
I am going into year 11 and was interested in doing Hebrew or Latin. I am incredibly interested in both languages but I know that they are both difficult and I have no prior experience in either, however I do know the very bare basics. Should I do one of them? If so which one? Or should I stick with not doing a LOTE.
Thanks

I don't know about Hebrew, but I may be able to give some help for Latin. Latin is indeed a difficult subject, however from my experience you can develop quite quickly if you are able to understand the principles of the language. For Latin, some of the main things to get used to include the word order (or lack of), conjugations and declensions (basically noun endings also change as well as verb endings to create meaning), and grammatical structures (purpose/result clauses, indirect statement). The scaling reward is crazy high, but its also a really enjoyable subject-you can read lots of interesting and crazy stories in unseens about politics, wars, and random events, and the Aeneid is an amazing text that you study in 3/4. Just keep in mind that there will be a lot to cover, many people begin in year 7, but it's not impossible to catchup.
