Title: All 3 maths??
Post by: onerealsmartass on July 19, 2010, 05:49:28 pm
My teacher reckons i should choose spesh next year, but if i do then ill end up with 3 maths :/
I am currently doing further, and next year i will be doing methods 3/4 as well.
So i just need confirmation as to whether all 3 maths contribute to our ENTER/ATAR now??
Thanks (:

Whether you should do it depends on:

-How you go in further this year.
-How much you like maths.

Mainly the first.  If you go really well, then IMO it would be pointless to do methods and spesh in year 12.  Why work like a dog only to push your further score into the bottom two, when it is good enough to stand in the top 4...

However, if you are unhappy with your Further score, and want it to be bottom 2, then as long as you enjoy maths, it is probably worth doing the two in year 12.

Note: Only 2 maths can be in your Top4; so even if you get 50 in all 3 only 2 will count and 10% of 50 = 5 so you will get 50+50+5 = 105

Yeah that was my intention if i bomb out in further ie get a scaled score lower than 40 than i shall choose spesh.
However if i do get a nice study score like a 45, ill just do methods which means that ill only have 4 subjects as well :D

It would be awesome to be able to do that, but because not all 3 dont count in your top 4 it seems sort of pointless...

I highly doubt that three maths will be allowed in the top 4.

From my vce days this was what was implemented.

3 maths: 2 in top 4, 1 in bottom 2.

4 maths: 2 in top 4, 1 in bottom 2, other doesn't count at all.

hmms well if you really do enjoy maths then why not do all 3? in my opinion. pretend that you decided to do history instead of spesh at the end and got bad wen you could have gotten better in spesh then...? oh oh
even if one of the math subjects wont count as your top four, wouldnt vce be much more enjoyable and you'd have the satisfaction that you didn't miss out on a maths (if you're a mathy person ;D)
but its best to see how you do in further first to make sure.
