This might sound silly but are the examiners nice?
And during the detailed study topic... is it a discussion or just us blabbering on. I mean... how frequently do the examiners ask questions during that period?

I'm not too sure about the second q, (and i'd like to know too!) but i've heard that the examiners are REALLY nice. And they have to seem interested in what you say, even though they've heard 100s of descriptions of peoples families and houses and schools and whatnot.
I think in the examiner's report (this is for french), they mentioned how they're really looking for a discussion for the detailed study, but i don't know how much of that carries through in the actual thing.

Having done Chinese SL last year it actually depends from person to person.

Last year I got 2 ladies, one was really nice and one was literally emotionless which made me that much more nervous.

In terms of the oral, it was actually a discussion, you dont really get to blabber on for too long as they will cut you off and ask another question..

This will usually lead them to ask you questions stemming from what you may have said.

Eg, if you say you want to be a doctor or something, they will ask why? Or they will ask you what do you see good in it etcc...

Good Luck!! :)

a) They are probably 90% nice people, think of them there as encouragement for you talking.

b) It depends how much info you have to say. Often getting the examiners to probe you with a bunch of questions might get you off a topic you want to discuss. It is honestly up to the student and how they are coping in the discussion, the detailed study is what you have studied so you should be effectively leading the conversation into a territory you have studied.
