does remand continue during a trial?

I'm doing a question about the abolition of committal hearings, and would like to make the point that as committal hearings become lengthy, the accused is unable to effectively prepare a case due to being in custody, but if the accused is going to be remanded during the trial anyway then I guess it doesn't really make a difference.

Remand is definitely something that impacts the trial process though it's a fairly weak argument on its own. I'd propose for you to mention, in terms of delays, that committal hearings ultimately delay the process of trial when a person has pleaded 'not guilty' (hence why they are in a committal hearing), which can increase the level of stress when a person is remanded in custody through the entire period, and therefore the person's rights are at risk if they are held in custody for an unecessarily lengthy period.
