Da hello,

Wondering if anyone has a list of appropriate and useful 成语 for second language student like me.

P.S Do second language students need to include 成语 in their essay for the written examination? Like would it be significant?

Thanks!

Some 成语 in essays are good, however, they MUST be appropriately used and relevant. Too many is probably not too good, I probably use too many haha... But you should be able to get away with it if you don't use any, just use some sophisticated normal language. Some good ones are: 众所周知,大开眼界 etc.

second language students are not required to have 成语 in their vocab, it is only required for advanced students.

examiners will concentrate more on your grammar and the fluency.
In other words, using hard words like 成语 in your writing where it is not appropriate, this will causing you lose more mark.
However, using simple words and construct a clear and fluent sentence will reward you with more mark(full mark maybe).

In the examination, there are only criteria for grammar and content.
There is no such criteria for vocab.

Hopefully that helps.

Please Note: the above information is only for second language students.
