MUEP Biology??

I've considered doing MUEP Biology but i'm confused how the whole system works.
How do I apply and what are the prerequisites? Also, i've heard that your UMEP subject gets counted towards your ATAR, but only as 10% (is a bottom 2 subject); is that the case?

Would it be a good decision to do MUEP?

Thanks in advance!

It isn't counted as 10%, but in some ways it almost is. It's probably a little bit better than a 10% subject. Though achieving a score above 90 to get the full increment is certainly a big task!

If you're doing extension at Monash, I think it's called MUEP; if it's at Melbourne Uni, it's UMEP

For UMEP Biology, I think the pre-requisite is Biology 3/4 in Year 11 with a minimum of 40 SS (although I think they make exceptions if you have good recommendations and good grades in other subjects); otherwise, the alternative is doing Biology 3/4 alongside UMEP Biology in Year 12 (but obviously, again, you need good recommendations and good grades in Y11 Biology and in other subjects)

You're right about grading: if you get 90+ average for the 2 semesters=5.0; 80-89=4.5...

t35t and I talked about UMEP (Biology in particular) in here: Why should I do UMEP?

You might also find this useful (although you probably could have found this yourself online :p): http://futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/486355/2012_UMEP_FINAL.pdf

Just ask if you have any more questions!

At the end of each semester  you get a mark out of 100 (for biol I think it was 40% in-class assessment and 60% exam). At the end of the year they average those two marks. If you get average of:

90-100 the increment is 5.0
80-89- the increment is 4.5
70-79- the increment is 4.0 and so on

Would you say achieving a 4.0 increment is easier to obtain than a standard VCE subject?

I heard that it's way easier to obtain than a standard VCE subject because of the similar content. I think the key is maintaining good time management... It may be a little stressful, but I feel it's a good pathway.
