Students studying more than 2 lotes?

I'm wondering whether any student has ever studied more than two lotes? I read an article in The Age that said that only 223 students had studied two languages in VCE during that year. By the end of next year, I will have studied four, so I'm wondering how many students have studied three or four. :) thank you!

I've no idea about VCE sorry, but I wish taking multiple LOTEs was a more common thing. I know that in Europe at least it's totally normal to learn two or more languages.

I know what you mean, I'm actually Spanish, I'm just really interested to see if any student has ever done four languages for VCE. Thanks for replying! :D

i can recall 3 lotes being done but not 4, i think that would be an insane workload especially if youre competing with native speakers. the common culprits of 3 lotes are usually latin + classical greek + french/chinese/german/indo/insert language here

Thanks, that's helpful :) I don't feel like I'm really competing, I don't need a specific atar score for what I want to do at uni. I really just enjoy languages and it's one of the few things I seem to be good at. I've done Spanish and I'm doing Italian, French and Latin next year. I really just want to know if anyone has done four before!
Thanks heaps :)

My friend is studying Modern Greek, Latin, Ancient Greek, and French. However he staggered them out like so:

Year 10: Modern Greek 3/4
Year 11: Latin 3/4
Year 12: Ancient Greek and French 3/4

It's a bit more feasible that way :)

That's fair enough :) I don't have an issue with doing them, I can do it fine, it just sucks that they only count three languages in the ATAR. If they count all the sciences because they are very different and variable, I consider languages are as well.

only 3 subjects per subject group can count towards your atar eg; 3 maths, 3 lotes etc., but yeah 1 of the 4 languages will go wasted :P

He already knows that will be Modern Greek as he "only" got a 40 in it (scaling up to 44).

Yeah, I agree, It is a bit disappointing that restrictions are put on language learning (albeit in spite of the great mark ups some languages are given). You're spot on with your point about the sciences as well :)

I've studied Japanese, French, Latin, Chinese (Mandarin), Greek, Spanish, Italian and English. Ironically, all of them I've studied at school asides from Spanish and I was decent at all of them but have forgotten basically all of it.
My VCE 2014 Goal is to not end consciousness ... and a respectable ATAR.

woww, I've never heard of anyone doing more than 2 lotes, especially 4. I'm only doing 2; Chinese and Japanese.. and apparently only 2 lotes (including English) can get counted in the top 4 and the rest get put down in the bottom 2 subjects? I just heard this a few days ago and I'm getting pretty freaked out since jap and Chinese are my 'best' subjects, and I'm scared one of them will go to waste :( is this true? I hope it isn't

English is not counted with LOTEs.
