VCE Chinese SL Advice ?

Hello,
I am currently a Year 10 student. I have some questions regarding Chinese SL and if you could answer them, that would be greatly appreciated !
1. Would I be at a disadvantage if I didn't attend the prepare for vce classes ? (PVC)
2. Which Chinese school do you recommend going to ? Could you please give an overview on how they actually taught ? (ie; lecturing, making you write essays in class, etc)
3. What textbooks do you recommend purchasing ?
