"Discourse features"?

On a VATE practise exam from 2012, there was a question going;
"Explain how at least two discourse features contribute to the register of the text. Provide evidence from two different subsystems to support your answer."

Aren't "discourse features" a subsystem all of their own? (cohesion/coherence, or conversational strategies for spoken, etc.) Is the question just asking for a generic answer about linguistic features that contribute to the register?

Thanks!

prettyy sure that's anything. Turned up on VCAA 2013, and iirc the report had all sorts of stuff on it. You could talk about lexis and phonology I guess or something like that.

Yeah, this issue came up during a practice run my school did. When it says 'discourse features' it just means 'features of the discourse' referring to any feature from any subsystem. :)
