Shifty Marking.... What should I do?

Ok so my last sac was marked and I got it back...... a certain question was worth 3 marks. 2 for the normal answer and I was confused where the 3rd mark came from.
So I went to my teacher, and asked what the 3rd mark was for. He told me I needed to reference the person in the scenario AKA john was washing the car blah blah blah: I need to mention john in my answer.

However, my friend had got 3/3 for the question and HE DIDN'T MENTION THE SCENARIO ONCE. His answer was IDENTICAL TO MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This teacher has been known to be inconsistent and it pisses me off since i work really hard in this subject and this is a really competitive cohort where 1 mark matters ( it usually a big difference between ranks ). So I just want everything to be marked fairly, everyone has a fair go. 

Problem is if i tell the teacher one of two things may happen: He will take a mark of my friend or give a mark to me. I am not even sure if the friend will let me show him his work.
What should I do....

Just going to respectfully disagree on this. VCE's not all about grades, it's about the friendships you make and the unforgettable experiences you have.

It's not worth potentially burning bridges with your friend (esp if you cost him the mark) for nothing at all. Best case scenario, you get that SAC mark (which is easily obtainable in future SACs if you just put an extra 20 minutes to study per day) and an extra rank, which could be a study score or two at most at the end of the year.

I can only see two scenarios where that might be important (to a significant degree)
-You're 0.05 off your course and that study score gives you an entrance
To this, you should be pretty much preparing with enough leeway to get into your course, instead of trying to just 'hit' the mark
-You get 99.85 and not 99.90 (and thus missing out with 50k in scholarship money)
If you think that this study score would make a huge impact on your ability to get chancellors, then by all means go for it, but if this wasn't the goal that you were trying to go for, then personally I don't see any huge reason to go and scrape SAC marks.

Just scratch it down to unfair marking and let this motivate you to do better in your future SACs.

but this happened to me (a few times tbh) last year, and my friends were willing to put their paper on the line for me - which made me feel freaking terrific. And in return I let them use my paper.

But look if the guy doesn't want to then bl, you can just tell the teacher that another person in the class was awarded marks for this. Or if you think your teacher wouldn't be able to recognise the student - give them the paper without the name

A mark's a mark fam - can make a big diff down the track, but 98% chance it wont

Given that your teacher has done this, it's bound to happen to your friend down the track -- so things will balance out

I entirely agree with hamo94.
A similar situation happened to me in 3/4 Bio, except, I was in your friend's situation. He asked the teacher if my answer was more correct and I ended up losing 2 marks outta 3 which dropped the grade from HD to Distinction. For a while I was annoyed, then let it slide but I would say that it's definitely not worth it to do something like that. And if your friend is content with his mark, it's probably not nice to put him in a tough position by taking such a risk.

It's still early in the year and your rankings will definitely change + the exams play a huge role. I'm sure if you work hard, you can definitely make those marks back.

happend to me this year as well...except mine was with methods and apparently he can't differentiate between my x and my multiplication sign except i write my x in that two 'c' joined together way and my multiplication as an x- EVERY SINGLE TIME...and i got the answer write haha...but didn't end up getting the mark...i think you should definitely go up...and take your friends paper up their with you and ask.

Ultimately the decision is yours, and I suggest you take into account the above posters advice and make your own informed decision.

Beware however, that you don't take it too far or you may risk insulting/provoking your teacher (which may be even worse for you in the long run), as there have been situations where I have encountered biased marking from certain teachers who take things too personally.

 However, I don't really know what your teacher is like, so just something to keep in mind.

Later on in the year as you have more SACs the rankings will probably spread out even more. In fact, (not that I think many people would do) I told my chem teacher she gave me one extra mark last year because in the bigger scheme of things, a mark is a mark is a mark!

you rocked up to yr 12 with not only a 47 raw in methods and a 46 raw in music performance, but also a scaled score of 55? (55 right?) for Chinese.. So I don't think you would mind at all whether you got a 40 or a 45 for chem, because it's most likely going to be in your bottom 2
- Soooo this mark wouldn't of made a difference to you (although I commend you for doing so - I did the same thing but my teacher said keep the mark lol ) It makes a lot of difference when this subject is their 'carrying' subject where they really don't have room for error letalone human error. ya feel?

I don't think you're really playing devil's advocate, you're just defending a weak stance and saying that "oh but pls brah, you don't have the same feels as my fam, because you already have top scores and one mark or a difference of 5 study scores wouldn't matter to you as much, ya feel #swag?" (did I get the Gen Z style correct?), which is both a huge assumption and also not really relevant to anything

I'm with Hamo, if I had a choice between maybe getting one extra mark and maybe dogging out a mate, or just keeping things as they are, I'd go with the latter. You win some, you lose some, and in the greater scheme of things this is a very small one on the side of losing.

No see the point I'm making is how much this matters to the person. I speak from a similar perspective as the wunderkind, so this is purely anecdotal. And no this is not an assumption, because I can directly relate to his scenario (unless maybe i'm extrapolating from my experiences and for that I'm sorry.) I see in my psych class which is filled with mainly year 11s, they'd go crazy over 1 mark whereas I couldn't give a crap. Because this matters soo much to them and means little to me.

Now why is it either you dog a mate or you lose a mark? That's not the only results from this.
You could, like I mentioned previously, show the teacher the question without the name. Teachers wont go out of their way to take a mark off.
I'm not saying go to the principal team and pursue this further, but I'd say at least give it a go. Ask the teacher why you lost the mark and others didnt. Show them proof. If they say no, leave it. But at least try. It's not being selfish and it's not being greedy. It's just the negative illustration depicted of those who 'chase marks' is not accurate.

And probably Hamo is correct, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter (and i did state this earlier) - but that's from retrospect. Whilst you're grinding through year 12 you look things from a different perspective.
