Fishing and the Four Spheres of Earth.

Hiya all,

Just a quick question that I've been struggling over:

How would would the four spheres of Earth (the biosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere) be affected by over fishing of freshwater fish?

If anyone would be so kind as to answer this despite this forum being essentially deserted, I would be eternally grateful.

Many thanks,
Pathfinder.

We had a similiar question, except focusing on the Western Treatment Plant. Ours was 8 marks.

I answered the question by giving an overall statement saying that the Plant was largely affecting all spheres in a negative way. Then defining each sphere and then 1 impact after defining it. I don't know my mark for the question though...

Hope this helps, I don't know anything about overfishing so can't help on that hahhaa. (this totally isnt a month later but it might help for exams??)

:)

Hey there, this question is old, but I just saw it so.

I think the best way to answer is to break is to attempt to break your answer into four dot points, however this may be hard as all the spheres are so interconnected. I started off with my best point, and then continued on with a points I just made up, because theres not really direct impacts that I can see.
Biosphere- Overfishing results in a decline in fish populations, affecting the genetic diversity of particular species, and in the long term may cause extinction, reducing the species diversity of the ecosystem. This can result in the destabilisation of the whole ecosystem, leading to a further decline in overall biodiversity.
Hydrosphere- Commercialised fishing of rivers and lakes, resulting in release of gases, metals and other pollutants that change the chemical makeup of the freshwater, as well affecting the air quality (Atmosphere). This change may result in inhospitable conditions for some species, as well as affecting the Lithosphere, with polluted waters coming to river beds changing the nutrient levels in the surrounding soil. In addition, the decay of dead fish is important in maintaining the chemical composition of the water levels as well as the surrounding soil.
