Does anyone know how many marks can you lose in the English Language exam to get ~35, ~40, ~45, ~50?

We got back our English Language trial exam today and people lost a gratuitous amount of marks.

thx

I would say:
35: SAC's: 80/100 (low A's),   Exam:105/150 (low B+)
40: SAC's: 90/100 (low A+'s), Exam:124/150 (low A+)

Would not know for 45+.

Thanks Damo, I was guessing around the same. I guess based on my practice exam (64/75) I would fit in around ~42, not too bad.

That's a really good score. We got our practice exams marked by an actual examiner, and I got 24 out of 75, or something around there.

ouch, yeah those external markers were really harsh in their marking. Did you do the VATE paper? Most people in my cohort got less than 50%, except for one guy who got 74/75. I think I got the second highest mark.

Same here! Those external markers marked harsh on everything, I think they're trying to ruin everyone's confidence :P, you know the 'debater' only got 25/30 for English even I beat him wdf.

Just wondering, how exactly was the marking harsh? Was it difficult to score highly in the essay? Were they exceptionally prescriptive with the responses for sections 1 and 2? Did you need to include examples, explanations and definitions for questions worth 2 marks?

Are you serious? Our teachers at school have told us that so long as we substantiate our points with examples and explanations we'll be awarded the marks (provided that our responses relate directly to the question, of course).

They don't like overused examples or textbook examples. So all that computer jargon stuff, it'd be best not to use that.

Yeah especially the nature of the English Language course and how we have to use the stimuli material they provide us this year.

And also, with your external markers, are they usually VCAA markers that your school hires?

The person the school hired will not be marking the VCAA exams, but I think he/she is a tutor

That's still good though.  My EL trial exam was just marked by another teacher who has the qualifications to teach EL, but just hasn't actually taught EL in year 12.  She's just taught linguistics in general though.

Hmm, when I said substantiating points, I was talking about sections 1 and 2. I wonder how our teachers will mark our practise exam, seeing as the cohort SAC scores are always incredibly low...
