Writing/listening in French

Hi, I know this is a very late question but I've been a little bit confused and would like some advice if anyone could offer it. When we are answering the FRENCH parts of reading and listening, is it to be using synonyms or words from the text? I know there are marks given for the use of French language and I've always been advised by teachers to try and change the wording/use synonyms do demonstrate knowledge of the language but sometimes in exam reports they mention that students weren't awarded the mark unless they used the exact word from the text.
Does anyone have any advice regarding this?
Thanks, hopefully that makes sense.

My advice would be to follow the examiners' report.

They are more fussy with French with the reading section than the listening (certainty for synonyms). Definitely need synonyms for the reading section, would be nice for the listening if possible. However, make sure that the synonym is accurate and suits the answer and question. Using the word from the text is better than a poor synonym.

Hope that helps.
