Hello,

I have been told there are questions in the exam which ask us to answer with reference to a business which we have studied throughout the year, and thus to make a case study for a service and a manufacturing business to answer this question. However, I can't seem to find any past questions which ask this.
Am I just being told rubbish?

Thank you :)

Last year's exam paper is not available online yet, but I can recall at least one question on that exam that asked us to reference a business we studied that year. Somebody else will be able to remember what the question was, but it's definitely not rubbish. I wouldn't focus too much on it, it'll probably only show up in one or two questions in the exam later in the year. Also, if your school uses the Jacaranda textbook, that one does have very good cast studies so I would go through them throughout the year and make sure you memorise a few business names and summaries for some of the key knowledge in the study design.

Hey,
Yes you do need to make reference to a contemporary case study.
This was not on the 2017 paper, however on last years paper the question was "What is the importance of leadership in change managmnet, making reference to a contemporary case study you have studied".
Throughout the year your teacher should provide you with example. Please note these examples must be within the last 4 years.
I learnt about Woolworths (plastic bag saga), Yakult (factory operations) and Lush(CSR).
Hope this helps :)

For which key knowledge points do we need to learn a case study?

Mostly in unit 4. Check under the skills on the study design.
Graduated in 2018. Top 5%.

Thank you guys for the responses, much appreciated :) so should I develop a big case study to use in case I get a question like this on the exam? Was recommended to me by the Chief Examiner that I write up two case studies (one for a manufacturing business and one for a service business) and basically list each bit of information about them from the study design e.g. their business structure from the first point.
Would you guys recommend doing this?

I'd highly recommend doing this. We were given two businesses (Yakult for OM & Bega for Change Management), one of which was thoroughly detailed and the other one which was not as focused on. Guess which one ended up being relevant on the exam?  :)

So make sure the case studies you choose are watertight, because despite the fact 2017 didn't have any relevant questions, the 2018 questions relevant took almost 10%!  :'(
