Hi,

I was just wondering all the possible questions they can ask in the oral exam for italian, including the 7 minute convo and 8 minute discussion (just generally).

Could y'all could post a list of questions we could be asked under these relevant subtopics i have listed below and we could all collate and make a whole page of questions/and any answers together , and create a resource we can all use to prepare for the end of year ora.

I have copied this from the current study design:

Prescribed themes and topics, and suggested subtopics:
The individual The Italian-speaking communities
•    Personal identity and lifestyles
i.e. Daily routines, values,
personal opinions, likes and
dislikes, past experiences, personal
memories, adolescence, healthy
lifestyles, physical and mental
wellbeing, sport, pastimes and
leisure, tourism and travel.

-Relationships[/u]
For example, relationships with
family, friends, peer group pressure,
pets, rapport with teachers,
relationships through social media.

Education and aspirations
For example, school, challenges
and goals, studying overseas,
gap years, tertiary options and
vocational pathways, part-time
work, volunteer work, workingholidays, new career pathways,
balancing work and leisure, jobs
of the future.

The Italian-speaking
communities

•    The Italian cultural heritage
For example, customs and
traditions, Italian passions (such as
gastronomy, soccer, music), film,
dance, opera, architecture, art,
literature, festivals, entertainment,
myths and legends.

•    Historical/contemporary people
and events

For example, past historical eras,
the Italian Renaissance, twentiethcentury Italy, feminism in Italy, Italy
and the European Union, famous
contemporary Italians in a selected
field (the arts, sciences, sports,
business).

•    Living in an Italian community
For example, living in Italy, living
in a selected Italian-speaking
community, the migrant experience,
post-war and contemporary
Italian migration to Australia, the
contribution of Italians in Australia

Thanks and I hope we can all make an amazing resource with questions for us to refer to and practice in preparation for the oral exam!

Hi,

For the 7 min conversation, you should consider that this year VCAA will not only ask about your personal life (family, school, hobbies, future, jobs etc) but also your relationship to the language and culture. For example, they might ask:
-  "Why did you choose to study this langauge"
- "How long have you been studying this language?"
- "Are you of [language] background?"
- "Would you like to go to [country where LOTE is spoken]?"
- "Do you regret studying [langauge]?

I'd reccomend you have a look at these videos from VCAA explaining how the oral exam is going to be different this year: https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/assessment/vce-assessment/past-examinations/Pages/RevisedSecondLanguageOralExaminationVideos.aspx
