You would need around high C+'s to B's and possibly B+'s now, I think.  If you really want to know, you should check out the graded distributions.  Last year's are located here.

I'd say B+'s as they are the median letter grade for the cohort, and 30 is the median SS.

this is too good to be true. Hopefully it stays around C+'s to B's. :D

I'm going to go with Matt. B+s to be safe. A C+ may rape you.

So what kind of grades/ranks would you need to get a 40+ SS in Chinese SL if you're doing it at Chinese school?

I'd say straight A+'s. I have no experience with Chinese, but seeing the median is B+ I see no way around it.

:O But 40 isn't really that high, is it? Imagine what it would take to get a study score of 50 then... ;)
Oh well, I could make it if I put in the effort - why is the median so high? A+ as in 90% or 95%+?

Last year A+ in the exams was 351/400, so around 88%... (link...)

And coursework was 94% for A+...

WHOA everyone doing chinese is so good, but that's not really too hard 88%... need to do a bit of solid work for that 94% in my general conversation though, I hate it when I forgot what I prepared ;)

Wait. You know that for most subjects unless you are lucky you won't get 40 raw without straight A+'s, don't you? Bear in mind that the "straight A+'s" are as stated by the grade distribution, not the stock-standard 90%.

And you are talking about 40 raw right?..

Also, remember that 40 raw is the top 8% of the cohort..

Getting 40 raw for Chinese is pretty hard...

Last year, 67 of the 800 or so students got 40+ for Chinese SL.

Yeah, I'm talking 40 raw so it scales to 50 or 51 or something awesome.
Fair enough, thanks for the info, it's much higher than I expected but I'll work towards it in preparation for next year :)
