Can I do UMEP Physics after terrible Report

I was wondering whether or not I should apply for UMEP Physics next year. I really like physics and am currently hoping to pursue a career in engineering and think that participating in this program would be beneficial to me in deciding if that is the path I want to take. The thing is I did really know about UMEP Physics and the requirements till just recently and I got really bad marks in semester 1 for methods 1/2 getting a D+ on my report.  :o At the time I was going to drop methods at the end of the year and do further maths so I didn't care how I did in maths. I have since lifted my grade and should definitely get an A or A+ in semester 2 and I will be doing spesh next year also. As for Physics 1/2 I find it a breeze getting an A for semester 1.

I think that due my semester 1 report I would not be able to get in for UMEP Physics and I would really like to do it just for the experience and don't really care about the added increment.

So should I even bother putting in an application without having done either Physic or Methods 3/4 this year and a terrible semester 1 report??? Are my chances???

well for starters, I'm pretty sure you only need to submit your semester 2 report for UMEP

You only need semester 2, however, you'll need to sit an additional test to get in as you haven't done both physics and methods 3/4 or any olympiads.

Either way, you won't know until you actually apply. Therefore if you want to do UMEP physics next year, then definitely apply. If you apply, there's a chance you get in. If you don't apply, you will not get in so you never know without trying

On the website it says "You are required to provide a copy of your semester one and two Year 11, school reports, accompanied by a key that defines the grading system used by your school." so is that a new thing that you have to submit your semester 1 report now?

Just submit your reports and see what happens. Hopefully your great second semester report will show them that you have been making an effort. If things don't work out you could always try e-mailing the subject coordinator and try to covince them that you really want to do UMEP.

but you got 50, even if you had all Fs in your report, they would still accept you appianway.

Maybe get the teachers to write something positive about your Methods grades so that they will consider it.
I know for MUEP they said they wont mind so much if you have a bad subject/etc as long as its not related to the prereq
although I know your Methods/Physics is quite important

I think semester 1 i got similar to you in MM, sem 2 I got much worst. This year I'm doing 3/4 and doing relatively brilliant. Physics likewise. As per my MM1/2 teacher's report, 'a change in attitude will go a long way'

I intend to apply for UMEP physics on the exact same basis as you. From what I've asked here before and the UoM website, you can do a test to check if you're suited. Apparently it's easy, but tbh I have no real knowledge of it.

I've acquired the textbook for the UoM physics subject, and there is a bit of calculus in it. How present this is in the UoM course, I do not know. If you can make sure you have as good an understanding of calculus as you can, I'd imagine you'll be ok.

My understanding is it's more of an issue getting numbers for a class than it is to limit them, so apply and I'd be surprised if there was a huge issue regarding grades.
