I was just wondering can you copy sentences from the extract and put it as your answer or do you have to completely rewrite it?
Will you lose marks if you do copy chunks from the extract and put it into your answer?

Not sure how it works for Japanese, but for Indo we were told to at least attempt to rewrite it.
For Indo, 1/2 the marks were for a correct response and the other 1/2 was for how you phrased the response.

you probably "should" but hey, copying is easier, especially for the first two qns in the section.

NB: I think I did have to shorten it significantly to make it fit on the line though...I can't remember too much about the VCE Jap exam anymore though.

For the "Respond in English" questions, usually a direct translation would do the trick, maybe needing a little adjustments here and here to answer the question. For the "Respond in Japanese" questions, I usually note the stimulus of the question (e.g. どんな、いつ、つもりですか etc.), the key words that I need and copy out a chunk, tweaking it myself to make it fit as an answer.

That said, my teacher hasn't focused too much in "Respond in Japanese" questions in reading comprehensions at all. : /
