Hi pro mathematicians, this is just a thread for any problems I may encounter during my undertaking of MTH1040 :)

First question to start things off,

What is the significance of the Cauchy Swarz inequality? I know how to prove it but I don't know what it means...

There have been a lot of changes to the MUEP Math course since last year... not as easy anymore :(

Have you looked at wikipedia? That serves as a good first port of call.

As iffets said, we didn't do it last year.

First thing that comes to mind is the triangle inequality. But essentially it can be applied to n-dimensional inner products, very useful for proofs, finding out the range and etc.

Oh, and Heisenberg's uncertainty principle (quantum physics) is derived from the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality.
