Seems like a budgeting question, but from my recollection, there was no budgeting in unit 3.

Can you let us know what book it came from and the title of the chapter?

Neville Box(macmillan) VCE accounting units 3 and 4 workbook page 194 question 10 or textbook which was on page 237, same question number.

Explain why statements of cash flows are often prepared for consecutive reporting periods within the one report.

In real-world accounting (in the reports of companies) the statement of cash flows has the current financial year's results and the previous year's. This allows for comparison between different reporting periods and thus satisfies both relevance and understandability qualitative characteristics.
