I've had good experiences with buying textbooks online, can save upto $20-50 for a textbook, when compared to the Monash Bookstore.
I've also had experiences with 'Other' (sort of?)

A few months ago, The John Medley Library at Monash was getting rid of some novels and stuff, books were going out from anywhere between $1-10. There were Harry Potter books sitting there at $3-5, pretty good.

Thought I had managed to snag Fahrenheit 451 for $1. Turns out it was a dodgy book called Farenheit 666 :(

There was a rather...interesting book for sale that day. I believe aes_999 can tell you more about that

I brought a good book from the op shop today. $3 and I'm halfway through and loving it. I also go to Chadstone and go to this bookshop where all of the books are $5. Picked out some good ones there... and some crap ones as well but still.  :P

From what I've seen, http://www.allbooks4less.com.au/ is pretty cheap compared to the RRP for some novels - otherwise just get a kindle or some other e-reader - they're really convenient :)

online is usually the way to go, unless of course you go to those books for less stores which sometimes have some awesome bargains

Booko includes the book depository. Book depository usually is the cheapest but i go to booko first because my inner jew is screaming at me to get the absolute best deal. Sometimes Abebooks is cheaper or another random site.

Off topic question.
Has anyone made the complete switch to ibooks? (or kindle etc).

These days, I only ever read free ebooks from sites like the one below:

http://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/meta/authors.html

At the rate I am reading, it will take me 300 years before I am finished with that list :)

I can appreciate the Kindle > ibooks claim.
But more importantly, can a case be made for buying ANY book, when there is so much classic literature freely available and out of copyright on sites such as Uni. of Adelaide ebooks or Project Gutenberg ?

A case could be made if you wanted to read more recent books.
