Title: AFL: FA/Preseason Draft/Trade talk.
Post by: Greatness on August 30, 2012, 11:39:22 am
Ratten sacked. Malthouse likely to replace him and strong rumours that Cloke may be joining Carlton.

EDIT: Changed this to FA/Preaseason Draft/Trade talk.
FA:
Goddard now a Bomber. Good trade, but pricey and too reliant on him getting back to his best - altho highly possible, but still possibility of him not performing at all.
Freo offer Danyle Pearce a contract (FA)
Chaplin likely to head off to Tigers
Lynch all but signed with Collingwood. Time will tell.
Chris Knights to Tigers
Rivers likely to head to Cats
Not sure what the go is with Moloney

Trade:
Talks of Collingwood and Sydney making bids for Kurt Tippet
Caddy will return to Vic. Geelong, NM, Saints likely.
Wellingham may return home to WA.

I think it was a bit harsh towards Ratts. Performance this year compared with last year is quite similar, keeping in mind we had a string of injuries to key players for much of the season, but having the opportunity to gain someone as experienced and successful as Malthouse was a big factor in their decision.

I agree, Ratten has been with the club for ages and they do this to him. I lost any small amount of respect that i had for the club after that.

Saw Mick down at the RSL last night. He didn't come across as all that keen to talk about it, therefore he's definitely going :P

Yeah 97% chance he'll be at Carlton next year.
Ratten handled himself very well, as much as I hate Carlton my respect for the club has dropped even more (wait it can drop more?.. dirty scum cheats) but my respect for Ratten has risen a lot. I really hope he gets a gig somewhere else - maybe Port or whatever it be.

Hawks look like they'll smash WCE. Buddy on fire, premiership looks like it's theirs to lose right now.

I hope so too, can't stand another Collingwood (good they lost btw) or Hawthorn premiership, hope they can get their first one either this year or sometime soon :)

Although, Sydney and the Hawks look pretty amazing atm :/

Pretty sure you won't be seeing collingwood advance further then next week, they have been some of the most inconsistent players this year. This is coming from a collingwood supporter.

SYDNEY <3
The contest against Adelaide was pretty intense though Matthew Scarlett retiring tonight.. he didn't have a great game but a sad end to a decorated career and Pavlich is an absolute gun.

I don't think so. If you win your game next week against either WCE or NM then you'll play us which you guys will win since you're our bogey team :'(

Best scenario for Collingwood: 1 point to win, Cloke has the ball form 50 out, he kicks it out of bounds on the full, Collingwood loses. Next day, he has a press conference to announce him defecting to Carlton with Mick Malthouse as the coach :D \o/

That would actually be the best.

Oh but we were close to losing this year. I went to that game and I thought we were finished.

I went to the Coll Ess game and thought straight away that Cloke has made up his mind after taking his first grab, just had the confidence to go for it with both hands. I reckon he has agreed to terms with Collingwood but football is a weird thing anything can happen... Really hope Carlton don't get him, but probably the most likely...
Out of all teams I'd like to see Sydney win the flag, of course behind Collingwood ;) But I think Freo are a good outside chance, beat Ade this week then they may be able to bring it against the hawks. Collingwood should beat either of WCE/NM at the G, but this is finals and crazy things happen.
Collingwood's key backs and forwards are finding some touch now, Jolly in good touch, only the effectiveness and both offensive and defensive run and play of the midfielders that are letting the team down now. Hoping the mids can flick the switch next week. Pendles has been poor, Swan productive but not as damaging as he can be, Beams was ineffective, Sidebottom ineffective, Thomas no where to be seen, Wellingham has been ok. Absence of Luke Ball is really showing now :( Honestly, it's our midfield that has been letting us down in the past month before that it was probably our forwards.
I still have faith, but like others it is slowly dissipating.

John McCarthy. Really hit home when I read who it was, saw him play during the times he was at collingwood. R.I.P Buddy. Too young.

:( Very sad news. Tragic really, making a name for himself at Port in his first season there, playing some good footy too!
Fucking disgusting to see media publicly name the player/person in such an incident, give the family and person some bloody respect. They deserve to know before the general public, they are humans too. Absolute filth. There is no such thing as common courtesy in the media is there?....
RIP JMac will be greatly missed by both Port Adelaide and Collingwood :'(

MM announced as Carlton coach. Could potentially be disaster for Carlton, hear me out. It is probable that MM will sack a few of the remaining assistant coaches all of who are still contracted. They'll have a complete turnover in senior coaches/staff whilst paying out those that have been sacked while contracted. He better have a better game plan in mind, rather than the 'press'. We'll see at the end of next season!

from OP:
FA:
Goddard now a Bomber. Good trade, but pricey and too reliant on him getting back to his best - altho highly possible, but still possibility of him not performing at all.
Freo offer Danyle Pearce a contract (FA)
Chaplin likely to head off to Tigers
Lynch all but signed with Collingwood. Time will tell. He has signed now http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/newsfeatures/news/newsarticle/tabid/5586/newsid/149001/default.aspx

We've had talks with Tippet but I don't think we'll get him (Imagine Sam Reid & Tippet duo) since we've got to secure our players first (E.g JPK, Hannebery & Mumford). I suspect Gold Coast or Brisbane will get him since Lynch has signed with Collingwood (Salary cap pressure) and Brisbane has finished paying up Fevola's contract leaving room for Tippet.
Title: Re: AFL: FA/Preseason Draft/Trade talk.
Post by: Greatness on October 02, 2012, 05:10:11 pm
Highly likely that he'll end up at Brisbane/GC. Walsh just said we're (Pies) aren't interested in Tippet, not sure what to make of that tho they always lie... lol
Collingwood have enough space in the salary cap to pay another player in the 700-800k range perhaps a little more this is including Lynch's signing. But it's assuming that Wellingham and Dawes are traded since Tarrant has retired, Swan, Maxwell, Johnson, Didak are on the veterans list next season and we could still trade Wood/Buckley or delist them and a couple of other fringe players. Not including the last few players I would imagine 800k-1m would be freed up from that.
I think WCE's first round pick (17) would be fair for Wellingham. Or Freo's (16) or Zac Clarke trade. According to his manager he will either stay a Pie or go to WCE/Freo.

From this Monday onwards... it certainly gets more interesting. Tippett choosing to go to Sydney, Caddy wanting to come home and Wellingham wanting to go to WCE are certainly talking points in the trading period..

Though I don't know how we'll satisfy Adelaide for Kurt Tippett.. Don't really want him at our club but it looks like we'll will need to organise a multi-club trade to bring him to Sydney... Any thoughts on Tippett choosing to head to Sydney?
