Hi all,
I've recently completed year 12 and aspire to eventually end up in medicine. My UCAT, although satisfactory, is not high enough to get me into Monash Direct entry.
I wanted to know if I had a higher chance of being accepted into Melbourne's graduate medicine if I was a graduate at Melbourne Uni vs Monash Uni. I am aware that Monash essentially only accepts students from their own university and was wondering if this was in common with Melbourne? Or if I have an equal likelihood of being accepted into Melbourne Medicine as a Monash graduate?

I noticed you were a Melbourne Uni Biomed student. What was your experience like, and if you had your time again would you opt for Monash over Melbourne?

From that perspective, Monash is better. That said, that benefit needs to be balanced against which course suits you better, where your friends are going, which university is more convenient to get to etc. Ultimately choosing the wrong course for you will have a bigger impact on your chances of getting into medicine than the small benefit of retaining Monash's MD as an option.

It's been a long time since I've done Biomed at Melbourne, so I suspect the course has changed somewhat. It's also worth adding that I never studied at Monash as a comparison. I think, in hindsight, the content of the Monash course would have suited me better and that it's a more well-rounded biomed course; however, Melbourne was still the better option, as it allowed me to stay at home with family in Geelong.
