Welcome to the tournament of 2016! This year we had 14 people voice interest in this event and things are going to be a tiny bit too crazy! We (insanipi and myself) are going to hold this event as realistically and fairly as we can so that we can promote the competition however have a good time as well! :)
This year, the event has been divided into two phases; one round robin and one knockout phase. There is a chance that we might need to crawl into 2017... but let's hope not.
Here are the rules and how this will run.
Submitting an Outcome
All submissions are to be made to insanipi or myself. You're allowed to submit the result as a comment here if you want but just make sure your opponent gives you permission to do so :P
Requirement to claim a win
The winner must submit one of the following to claim a win, clearly stating which players were involved:
1. A PNG file of the game
2. The moves of the game as well as details about who played what colour.
3. A screenshot showing the final position and the final few moves
Requirement to claim a draw
Any one player just needs to message that the game was drawn by _________
The blank can be either agreement, threefold repetition, fifty-move rule, stalemate or any other legitimate method of drawing.
Round Robin Phase
You will schedule to play all (13) other opponents by yourselves. You must finish your games before Mon 12 Dec. at 12 noon sharp.
We apologise that we have chosen not to use either chess.com or lichess for their preplanned tournament modes. The necessity of getting a membership on chess.com is just not worth the fun and lichess requires everyone to be online all at once, which is expecting far too much for 14 players.
Time on the clock
As far as we're concerned, we are happy for the time controls to be decided among yourselves for the round robin stage. However if this poses problems, we will make these 10 minute games with +5 second increments.
Tallying the points
A spreadsheet has been made for insanipi's and my use. We will update the spreadsheet ASAP when we receive an outcome of a game. You can find a link to the spreadsheet here. Occasionally if I remember to, I will also upload a screenshot of the spreadsheet at a certain time to save some effort.
Note that the scoring works as thus:
1 - Win
0.5 - Draw
0 - Loss
Black or White?
You will notice that some boxes have been shaded grey. For the box shaded grey, the name to the left (i.e. not above) that box is playing that colour.
Examples:
For the game E6P V.S. brenden, E6P will be playing white.
For the game heidi V.S. qaszer, heidi will be playing black

What happens if one of my opponents and I don't get a game going?
You're given essentially two weeks to play all the games. That's basically one person a day on average, so it should be fine. Here are the guidelines for if things don't go to plan
Could not have all games
1. You both tried your absolute best, but couldn't get something happening
If there's a genuine reason as to why something has hindered both of you, that's fine. We can negotiate something. Or alternatively you can choose to draw by agreement
2. You simply don't want to play anymore
Well, ok. But you basically get 0
3. You asked your opponent to play a game, but they simply never responded to you

The top 8 players advance to the knockout stage.

You will once again schedule. However, since we start on the quarter finals (i.e. you play for at most 3 rounds) you'll be given less time to play - at most a week to schedule your game.

All games will be of 15 minutes long, with +10 second increments. The time control is more lenient here because we want to give players more of a chance to focus here, than to hurry.
Setting up the tree diagram
The quarter-finals were seeded so that the players who attained 1st and 2nd place would not be able to meet until the grand finals. The remaining six contestants have been randomly seeded due to the fact many games were not played. Information regarding the randomised seeding can be found in the spoiler
Seeding method
First, the names of the 6 contestants were assigned a number from 1 to 6 via Random.org, to which the first outcome was taken. The following list was obtained.

Names on the tree diagram are listed from top to bottom, including the names of the top 2 players. However, we will pretend the top two players do not exist.

Additional submission requirements - Semi finals and Grand final only
For the quarter-finals, there will only be one game, you will follow the same submission procedure.
However, the semi-finals will be a best-2-out-of-3 scheme. The grand-finals will be best-4-out-of-5. This allows the players multiple chances to play, as well as reduce the disadvantage of playing a colour not preferred too often. It also forces the contestants to work harder for the win :P
(Note that colours are to alternate for successive games. lichess does this for you if you use the rematch option)
Draws are again, to be counted as worth 0.5 in value. If after 1, 3 or 5 games (depending on which phase) the score is tied, the players must keep going until the first decisive game is achieved.
The winner will submit what's necessary for all games (including draws and losses) if RuiAce and insanipi are both unable to spectate the game. If either one of them is online to spectate, no submission will be necessary and the results of the games will be stored by us.
Black or white?
For the quarter finals, in all games the player listed above is playing white. e.g. Brenden will be playing white against insanipi.
Once we're at the semi-finals, both players will get at least one chance at each colour. However, there's the issue of who gets what colour first. This will probably be done, again, by code.
For the grand final, insanipi will be doing 5 coin tosses to determine who gets what colour first.
What if my opponent backed out here?
Guidelines are the same as for the knockout phase. Evidence MUST be present showing that you have tried to arrange a game (a screenshot serves as the best proof). The first player to submit the claim on forfeiture advances to the next round.
Note that if neither player submits, both players will be disqualified.

P.S. I'm really sorry about the inconvenience with the round robin phase. Both insanipi and I agreed that having the phase is suitable as we lack players to properly host a round-of-16, else two random players get to skip a round. It was the biggest compromise I felt was possible.

I believe i made several small positional mistakes that gave ruiace control of the entire center. However, he made the mistake of keeping his queen indirectly aligned with my rook. Ill take the 0.5 haha

With the game with qaszer 14 ... Nc6 was just a stupid move and then I didn't play accurately at all from there haha. I reckon I was a bit sharper with the game with Specter, however 26 ... fxg2 was a mistake which I saw after I played it, cause it falls to 27 Rxb7 but he didn't see it. So the instant the rooks were traded that was so drawn. Of course, you don't offer the draw if you have passed pawns though.

There was no really studied opening with qaszer though so a4 was mostly intended just to put pressure on the queenside and potentially open up threats with the rook on a1. If that pawn got to a3 things would've been very icky.

I played a4 because it stops the b5 pawn push from enemy.
Stopping the b5 pawn push is important because if i would like to develop my bishop out into c5, b5 pushes it back, then opponent gains a tempo and can even push it further and kick out my c3 knight which causes my e4 pawn to drop.

Real sorry but I'm going to have to drop out. Thought I would've had time and that camp was next week but I've completely lost track of the dates and realised that I'm off for camp tomorrow.
