Well, good luck to the both of us.

Reading: AA
Verbal: AA
Persuasive: HA
Creative: HA
Numerical: LA
Mathematical: LA
Thoughts?
Do you think I could get a PD for Nossal? (my only preference)
Are PD's for Nossal until November or is it just sent only once?
As you can see english is my strong point...
Do they check your school report? I'm a straight A+ (but one A) english student, and my maths is usually between a B+ to an A+.
-
tbh i don't think you'll get in. :( at least you learned a lesson, you should study harder. Also don't let this keep you down ;) VCE is the main goal and if you try hard enough, you'll get the ATAR you desire.

LA = Low Average?
Sorry, don’t think that you’ll get in.
From my knowledge, they dont check your report.
Well, good luck.

Random question.
If you got all superiors on Verbal Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and the essays, but got average/low average on Math and Numerical Reasoning
Would you get accepted?
-
Just got my results:
Verbal reasoning: Superior
Numerical reasoning: Superior
Reading comprehension: above average
Mathematics: Superior
Persuasive expression: high average

Those were the same scores I got last year for my pd invite, 3 sups, 1 above,1 high and 1 average

Nothing come thru from Nossal HS which was my second preference.

I know someone who got in with 4 superiors and 2 average from a competitive school. They scale down low averages very harshly from what I know so I don’t think they would take u if u had a low average

Unless times have changed since then...I got three superiors and a low/below average for reading comprehension and got a first round offer for Mac.rob (more than enough people tried from my school). Whilst someone else from my school who had one superior but no averages (and bands below that scores) only got in through a PD (very deserving though, she ended up being a house captain in year 12). Superiors are prioritised above anything else.
EDIT: Maybe superiors aren't considered above anything else, I have across a few people in Mac.rob that got one low average (maybe below, but probably likely). Also some of those people in those situations, got above averages for all others (got in on PD).

I had a friend who goes to the same school as me that had received two superiors, two above averages and two below averages and she didn't get any of her preferences :( I didn't get any superiors and got into SCHS, and she got two and didn't so I'm not sure but I don't think so. It's just the way they compare you to other students.

Low chance, I wouldn’t count on it.

Maybe your friend has equity like if her parents have a low-income earners health care card (nothing against it, I did as well).

You did better than her :/
If you’re in the same school then I don’t know.
But if you’re in different schools then that’s the answer
Edit: It may be that she got higher marks than you. Say, in reading you got 43/50 and she got 50/50.

depends on the number of people in your cohort compared to her cohort and the number of people who got accepted from your cohort compared to yours. Remember only a maximum of 5% of a school's cohort can be accepted. Bad luck, but maybe you can try out next year?
-
2 Superior is not always better than 1 Superior + 1 Above Average .
1% is Sup,11% is also sup ,the difference is big.
-
PeachyPink, it’s because there are less spots for macrob, and tougher competition

WHOAAA LUCKYY!!! GOOD JOB!
Very... Congratulationss

The scores seem to vary a lot and that is very surprising.
I just have a few questions :)
1. I go to a grammar school so how much superiors approx do i need to get a offer into Suzanne Cory or MacRob (around 15-20 ppl trying out aprox. I think)
2. If you get 2 superiors for maybe reading comprehension and numerical reasoning, HA for 2 and then 1 AA or A , does that stand a good chance? Or maybe 1 superior, 3 HA and 1 A?
3. Does anyone that got in last year have any tips for me? Basically tricks and how to not stress lol cause I would probably stress out heaps on the day.
Thanks

The more competitive the school, the harder it is to get a spot.
Usually private schools are regarded as 'good' schools, so the judges who mark your tests look at how good your school is, and will determine if you get a place.
For reference, I had a good friend who went to Scotch College, and he got 5 superiors but didn't get in, whereas I went to a pretty low scoring school and I got in with only 1 superior (it was also competitive).
My tip for exam day is to not always look at the clock. You're wasting a bit of time every time you look. I'd probably look every 10 questions done to see where I'm heading to.
-
yeah thank you :)
Have u done the exam before? You seem pretty experienced

Yep. Read the part in my previous post where I said I got in

Would I get into MHS with these scores:
Maths: Sup
Writing: Sup
Verbal Reasoning: HA
Numerical Reasoning: AA
Reading Comprehension: A
These aren't really my scores, I was just wondering whether I would get in, especially with the new writing system.
If you are wondering, I go to a grammar school and I think like 5-8 people are participating.
-
Hello StudyFREAK
I got in with four superiors but a friend of mine got in with 2 superiors and a below average in the writings. Although he didn't get a first round offer but he did get an offer a few months later.
I hope this helped. :)

Hi guys, I did it last year. As far as I know:
You need to get over two hurdles: your overall mark needs to reach a certain minimum (varies year to year) and you also need to be better than some of the exam-goers from your school (if there are more than 5% of the year level sitting the exam). The first hurdle is not too bad and the second greatly depends on the school.
As someone already said, two Sups are not necessarily better than a sup and a AA: like, 90 + 90 vs 99 + 88.
As such, questions asking about how a certain result would fare will NOT have accurate / meaningful answers.
For argument sake, if a school has a yr8 cohort of 100, while six students sat the selective school exam and all scored 6 Sups - then there would be someone missing out even with 6 sups.
Of course, in most real world scenarios things are not so extreme at all. The common consensus on this sub (at least from what I read) was multiple S and AA while without any A were good marks.
There could be gender difference as well. I think there are considerable more boy places than girls, though there were also more boys applying / sitting the exam. Maybe overall it is still favouriting boys? >:( >:( >:(
-
Maths - Sup
Verbal - Sup
Numerical - Sup
Reading Comp. - Sup
Creative Writing - Av
Persuasive - High Av
(Edit: got into NHS first round offer)
-
I go to an average, not-so-academic private school, there’s about 7-8 people trying out. What scores should I aim for?
Also english/writing isn’t my strength but can I afford to do badly on them if I smash out maths / numerical?
Hoping to get into Suzanne Cory btw

Oh wow! I was just wondering, for the Reading Comprehension test, how big are the paragraphs approximatly and on a scale of 1-10 how hard are they to understand?

Ummm, I can only remember Reading Comprehension was the easiest, so difficulty level was not too bad. I had a bit time to spare at the end as well - paragraph lengths seemed OK.
All the best!
