Have a look at the percentiles as opposed to your scores. high 80's and low 90's means you are still well in contention for a bit of monash action.

Not everyone took the offer so there will be around 5-10 spots for metro kids I think (this includes metro sydney, adelaide, brisbane etc)

And what about Griffith Uni med and Dent, they don't require UMAT do they?

What does the vice-chanc scholarship even represent, it just says high ranking students? Does that mean atar or umat :S

I got 61-60-91 with total 212 (71 overall) and 99th percentile.

Could anyone comment on what my chances are for Adelaide and Flinders medicine?
My ATAR from last year was 99.70

I don't really feel like going interstate, but I'm still applying for Monash and the likes.

Well not everyone took the defer offer. And they even accepted some of the students who were meant to defer in the end. So there may be a chance, as I said, I reckon 5-10 places for Metro kids

So I shouldn't really be worried at all?
Would you say I'm basically guaranteed a spot at Flinders (considering they don't use interviews)?

Hard to say as they only take like 25 people, but I'd be confident in getting a place if I were you :)

With a UMAT 95th percentile, is an interview offer from Monash likely?
If then I have an alright interview and an ATAR in the 99s, how likely is an offer for MBBS?
Thanks!

Okay so I got overall score of 65, percentile of 95. My total was 194, so if the cut-off for Monash is 195 again this year I'll be quite pissed off. This was the second time I'd sat the test, a huge improvement from 78th percentile last year.

I applied at Monash, Adelaide, Newcastle, UNSW and UWS, and I'm a gap yearer with a 2011 ATAR of 99.00.
Do I have interview chances at these places (especially Monash and Adel)?

I'd really appreciate some advice  :)

When is the second round you are referring to?

As far as I know, there is one round pre-ATAR and another round post-ATAR. Both have locals and interstaters.

Why do they take one pre-ATAR? and do you know what kind of predicted ATAR is required to be offered? Oh and what kind of actual ATAR score is required to get in with a good application and interview?

Not sure on the pre-ATAR query :/

I got in post-ATAR with 99.35, but I have a mate who got in with 97.xx too (also post-ATAR). Generally you'd want 99+ though.

JCU doesn't use the UMAT at all! :D They don't look at it or care if you have/haven't done it :)

Just your ATAR + application for an interview.

That stream was cancelled after last year's intake (it was only for the 2012 intake - ie. my year) unfortunately :/ There is a special scholarship round now, but realistically you'd need 99.85+ :(

No idea, it wouldn't be a fixed number every year anyway. As for predicted ATAR, very hard to say as the application weighs it into it too.

Hmmm, its just that I was under the impression that Pre-ATAR round was just for locals and that post-ATAR is for interstate students, it just seems really unnecessary to have offers before ATARs are released...

Hey guuuuyss, is 83%ile enough for medicine at monash, assuming I get 99.5+? Never really that interested in med (like, at all) but just curious :D thanks guys! time to SMASH MY ATAR haha :D

I have a friend who got a Bonded spot with 99.80 and 83%ile, if that gives you some idea :) So still a chance!

Not many in first round interview offers as a lot of unis have UMAT cut-offs for first round. If you could get a higher ATAR (say 99.70+) then you could be in with a chance for a Monash and UNSW interview.

Of course there's still JCU which doesn't use UMAT.

Spoiler
Wow back in my day 186 was 91%ile or so haha (claiming that class of 2011 is superior here).

I'd say you have a good chance with Monash providing you have a solid ATAR (99+ would help), UNSW, Newcastle, and of course JCU is still on the cards :)

Good luck!

To be honest, I'm not overly familiar with Dentistry and the percentile I have listed is an approximate as I couldn't find the exact UMAT cut-off (and I don't think I know anyone doing dent there to ask). But I'd say given the approximation you still have a chance! 99.60 might also be fine for LaTrobe dent this year, if you're keen on dent :)

With Bond, that's more than enough for an interview. I'd read people getting interviews with 97.xx ATAR and a UMAT of 166, so you should be well above that?

Good luck! :)

Also, JCU and the like are still very much on the cards! :)

Probably, given that 92%ile is correlating to a lower score than in previous years. Ideally you'd want 99.5+ or so given that.

91percentile
181 raw score

section two 67
section three 60

Do you know how they weighted it for second round offers?

EDIT: Well I'm just trying to prove my dad wrong, he said that UMAT used to be weighted 25% for something.. but I thought UMAT used to be more important, but now it's 50:50 (aka less important, (but still important of course)).

In the past UMAT was only considered for interviews. In 2011/12 they had a proper second round using UMAT+ATAR as they interviews less people in the first round. In 2012/13 they only had a second round for people with 99.80+ ATARs who were eligible for certain scholarships.

I'm really sorry if I'm in the wrong thread (I'm new), but I have a bit of a dilemma. Ideally I want to list my QTAC preferences as below:
1. Griffith med
2. JCU med
3. UQ dent
4. Griffith dent
5. JCU dent
6. UQ BMP
7. UQ Science
I'm not putting UQ med cos my UMAT's not enough, however I still need to get rid of one preference. Which one should I get rid of?? Thanks so much! :)

University of Adelaide: No one knows (last year UMAT cut off was insane)
Monash: Maybe
University of Western Sydney: No
UNSW: Maybe not (ATAR is a bit low)
UNCLE: I don't know (you got the 50:50:50 rule but your section 1 maybe a bit low)
UQ: Can you even apply to UQ as a gap year student? You may need to ask
Griffith: No
JCU: Depends on your application letter (no umat is required but still your ATAR maybe a bit low)
UTAS: As a gap year student, the answer is no.  If you have this result with GPA 5.5ish+ (i.e. if you are a first year Uni student), you have a chance.

I researched for UQ, unfortunately they are really serious about their 90%ile cut off :P sucks for you and me... but yeh, its one of their major criterias. also, UQ looks at your OP rank, not your ATAR. So, basically their criteria is that you have to pass three benchmarks to be eligible for consideration 1. 99 OP rank (anywhere above 99 atar, 99.95 has the same rank as 99.10 - they don't care) 2. UMAT above 90%ile 3. Interview

If i remember it right, UOA will divide candidates into several quartile groups (i think it is 4) according to their interview result and then rank you using your umat.  Say there are 400 kids who did the interview. The first quartile group (1-80 candidates), who did amazingly well in their interview, will definitely get a place no matter how low their umat was (of course it will still be above the cut off).  The next quartile group (81-160) are slightly different because not all of them will end up getting in.  So if you are in this second group, you will be ranked according to your UMAT result.  If you are the highest in this group, you will be the 81st candidate and you will be in.  UOA gives offers to student up to around 105+/-5 (depends on how many people reject their offers).
Now as you can see, if you are in the third or fourth quartile group (meaning you didn't do well in the interview), no matter how well you went for your UMAT, they won't care.

*This is just my understanding of how the system works. I got a place from them last year :)

so does that mean, given I only got 85%ile, if I do well on the interview I still have a chance? (I'm the very first interview they will be doing)
If they still use this system, then the answer is yes.  But you need to be in the top group (top 75ish students) in the interview.  I know this may sound a bit scary, but good luck and hope you can get in :)

If it helps anyone (probably only applicable for rural kids), I've got an offer from Newcastle and UNSW with a UMAT of 81%. Saying that, I think my "rural score" according to NSW is pretty high.

Congrats!  For those who are non-rural, here is the table UNSW put up a few years ago (I cannot find a more recent one :( )

I got a JCU med interview offer. But I'm majorly torn  :'( Like sure I'll do the interview and all and medicine is my dream (the usual) but 6 years, so far away... and the weather is SO hot! I'll really have to weigh this up if I do get a place offered.

^If you're in that sort of situation, I'd say go through with the medicine degree first (even if it's interstate), and if you can't see yourself pursuing it then you can transfer into another course. It's a much easier pathway than going through with a science/biomedical degree first, and then battling for post-grad spots. The weather over in Townsville shouldn't cause that much concern and you can still come back to Melbourne during the holidays (as many interstate students do).

there are second round interview offers as well, so if you get a gun ATAR (which you might, considering your methods ss), you may still get offered a place at JCU. dont fret :)

Would you consider 98 to be a 'gun ATAR' for JCU Med?

No, but I wouldn't consider it to be out of the range. I have friends with 97.xx who got CSP offers for JCU med in my year.

You'll only regret not doing it. JCU life, according to 3 mates who are there, seems awesome any way.

You need to get OP1 (99 ATAR), but you can get bonus points (maximum 2 points for doing LOTE in VCE, maximum 2 points for doing specialist maths in VCE and maximum 1 point for doing university enhancement subject). So if you do a LOTE and specialist maths, you can get 95 ATAR :)

Say maximum 2 points for doing LOTE. If you do one LOTE subject, you will get 2 points. If you do more than one, you will still get 2 points only because that's the maximum they will give to you.

I had a look at the QTAC Course Search and I can't seem to find it as well... I think maybe they're not offering it any more (possible explanation)?

Only ones I could find (when typing in 'Medicine' were 3 places with 2 being at Bond Uni and the other being at JCU for undergraduate Medicine).

Hi guys. What are the chances of getting an interview offer from Monash for Medicine with 99.95 ATAR and 68th percentile on the UMAT being classified as rural RA-2? I personally know of someone who had received an offer with ~63-64th percentile UMAT and a much lower ATAR (95-97?) but I suspect he would have been classified as rural RA-3. Cheers

If you classify for the Dean's Rural List, then probably. Either way, as long as your UMAT is above the 50-50-50 threshold for each section, Monash tends to like their 99.95s so I wouldn't be surprised if you got an interview as a metro student. It's a close call in my opinion.

Oh wow haha and thanks. Yeah I believe in 2012 they ranked applicants more on UMAT but since 2013 or 2014 I've heard that Monash now increased the weighting of the ATAR as well.

It is above the 50-50-50 threshold. Thanks for your input, it gives me hope :) Although even if I do receive an offer with such a low UMAT I would have to ace the interview which I have not prepared for.

I really cannot be bothered updating it myself (in all honesty, I just don't give one f*ck about the UMAT any more hahahaha), so hoping that the AN community can chip in a bit for this one! :)

You'd definitely get an interview and provided you were to do well on the interview you'd have a good shot at it. 97 is definitely on the low end for med though, you probably want to aim for at least 99

You have a decent chance of getting in haha. Just need to maintain or increase that ATAR. One month to go. No point worrying about whether or not there's a chance, and probably more useful putting effort into increasing ATAR as much as possible. Lol Best of luck  :)

For those applying JCU, applications are due sooooon! Very worth applying, especially if you feel the UMAT didn't go amazingly (although time will tell ;)). One of the admins at medstudentsonline (where I'm a mod too) posted a good guide recently that's worth checking out :) http://medstudentsonline.com.au/forum/threads/jcu-written-application-discussion-2017.32566/

Thank you, pi!
And I know this may be a trite question, but to have a competitive application at JCU Med is the ATAR threshold definitely above 99?

I have a friend who got in (same year I applied - so was a while back) with an ATAR of 97.xx and no rural experiences, so not a hard and fast rule! :)

with a umat score of 83rd %ile do i still have a chance at a monash bonded/ERC place?
are there any med courses which would accept this score?
thanks in advance!!

hey hey
Well done on getting through the gruelling 3 hour exam and the even more agonising month's wait for scores!!

no need to fret yet, keep Monash CSP, ERC AND Bonded on your VTAC preferences
Depending on your ATAR, an 83rd percentile can still mean you get an interview.
With a good interview, you can get into Monash med (all 3 types depending on how well your interview goes)
(the lowest umat i know for the current monash med year 1 cohort is in the 60s but a great atar and interview)

good luck!!
:) feel free to PM me if you have more questions

I knew I was bad at non verbal reasoning but 42 - now that's a laugh.
Probably doesn't bode well for my four maths exams   ;D

Still, 92nd percentile is better than what I expected.

hey hey, unfortunately based off previous years, although it is never explicitly stated, Monash does take the 50-50-50 rule quite seriously and in this case, it'd be unlikely they would offer an interview if any section is below 50.

Hey guys, I got a UMAT percentile of 84, with all sections above 50. (S1 - 57, S2 - 57, S3 - 60). I was wondering what are my chances for monash? From my predictions it seems like I'll be getting a good atar (hopefully above 98.5 or 99). Also, what are my chances for other unis like UQ? Is it possible for me to get into those in a bonded place, with second round offers? Thanks for the help.

hey hey congrats on your score!
For monash, depending on your ATAR, you still have a chance of getting an interview
To avoid double posting, see my post here for more details about Monash med: Re: Class of 2016!!

Regarding other unis, they tend to like to take their own state students and the really high achievers from interstate in first round, so with second round / bonded place you most likely have a higher chance.

With an 84 %ile UMAT, I would definitely be aiming for a 99ish ATAR. Monash Med is extremely competitive and you want all the leverage you can get.

Hello  :)
just wondering if you think there's a chance at Monash Med with a 72%ile UMAT which is a total score of 164 (48,57,59) <- do you know if the 50 cutoff exists for monash guarantee/seas kids? + 99 atar? (99 is seas scaled from 97)

hey hey :)
If you read above, you'll notice that we mention a 50-50-50 rule quite often. This means that without a 50 in each section, Monash uni will very unlikely invite you for an interview whether or not you have monash guarantee or SEAs. (Side note: minimum UMAT score for monash guarantee to offer you a reserved place is 175) In your case unfortunately you have not achieved a score of 50 in section 1 nor an overall score of greater than 175, which means it is unlikely for you to receive an interview. :(

Hey.

I couldn't seen to find any joint program (like Monash) or any scholar program (like Melbourne). From looking at their Doctor of Medicine & Surgery degree, it functions as any other grad-entry scheme, based upon GPA, GAMSAT score, and interview score. They do offer a Bachelor of Philosophy if you achieve an ATAR of 99 or above. Finally, they do offer other science courses with slightly friendlier ATARs too. Good luck with whatever you wish to do.

95 UMAT, expected ATAR of 98+ and possibly 99 (my school won't tell us our predicted scores). Chances?

Not as experienced as some here, but from looking at past threads and whatnot, you've made yourself pretty competitive. Good luck.

Interviews are mainly either MMI or panel. An MMI is where you rotate through a number of rooms, each with a different interviewer, a scenario and associated questions where you have to solve a problem/explain something etc etc. Nearly all of the 'interview' in the MMI will be solely focused on that scenario, so you can't really draw upon personal attributes. A panel type interview is more 'traditional', where a number of interviewers ask you questions for about 40 minutes. These interviews tend to be more focused upon your personal motivations, attributes and skills, however they usually also ask a problem-solving scenario.

Pretty much all uni's forbid interviewees to bring anything like references/awards/testimonials etc. into the interview with them- so I wouldn't bring them if offered an interview.

I was wondering, one of my friends got an 58% percentile, another 62% percentile and lastly a 65% percentile. They are all expected to get 95 plus in their ATAR and are hoping to get into Adelaide Uni (Note: they are all South Australian and non-rural). Is there still a chance for any of them to get in, all are willing to bond themselves.

Ita weird because the UMAT only makes up 20% whereas the interview and ATAR are 40% each!

Sorry for answering everyone's questions in one massive post and being rather concise/blunt (have an assignment due soon and I've left it too late per usual) :/

Man, yesterday was a wreck. Take care everyone.
I'd say you have very high chance of getting an interview with 95umat/99atar. Provided you do decently in your interview, a spot in the new MD course at Monash could very likely be yours! :) congrats on a great score
(interstate: Adelaide uni would look very highly on your 95 umat, UNSW may require a high 99s ATAR)

if you get an interview, what are we actually meant to say??? like do we need to bring awards and stuff ?
Deuce answered this pretty well, but I do suggest having a look around online for some general interview tips.
It's not really about bragging (at the interview stage, they already know you're smart and are a good student), but more about presenting the personal qualities/characteristics that doctors should have, e.g. compassion, curiosity, justified decision marking etc.
To be honest though, there is no yes or no answer to the questions, nothing that you are "meant to say", interviewers take numerous interviews and anecdotally I'm telling you they surely won't want to hear generic answers.
(may I also suggest having a look at this post if you want some free interview training: Re: UMAT Discussion Thread 2016)

Sidenote: Deuce do I know you?!? (acrep here ;) )

Disclaimer: I am not from SA so please take what i say with a grain of salt
When I attended the interviews (first round, interstate), nearly everyone I met had 90+.... so I'd say the 58 and 62%ile friends would unlikely get a spot in MBBS (bonded or not) at Adelaide Uni. Although UoA does prefer to take SA students, it really is quite competitive and their scores probably will be too low.

While for the 65%ile friend, if his/her ATAR is very high (unfortunately i don't think 95+ will cut it, more like a high 98/99s) and they also perform very well in the interview, they'd have a chance of getting into Adelaide Uni

Thanks mtse, I happen to be the one in the trio who got the very average 65% percentile. I am currently sitting on an A+ for psychology, geography (20 credit) and Religion (10 credit) along with A's for Biology and Physical Education. I assume
that will get me a high ATAR (possible merits in my A+ subjects)

I'm worrying my ass off but knowing there is a slither of hope has made me feel a lot better!

Good luck with your assessment, good to know nothing changes in that department after school.....

Those UMAT score are a tad low for Med just about anywhere in Australia but there is a glimmer of hope for the 65th Percentile (there is one person in my cohort that has a similar UMAT). There might be a slight chance for the others as well as long as they get well above 95( I'm talking about 99.75+). For Victorians, like myself, we are told that Adelaide requires high UMAT (99+) but locals should have a better end of the stick :)

Remember: Although the UMAT makes up 20% of the overall score they use to give you a spot in the course, it is a hurdle to actually get an interview.

You have a good chance of making it in. That Umat is enough for an interview. If you manage a 99+ and do well in interview, I do not see any reason why you would be uneligible for med.

This case is slightly different as Mia58 is a uni student. Based off what I've seen on MSO, your high GPA and ATAR with your decent UMAT will very likely get you an interview at UNSW. Whilst there is no chance at Monash (as I've said before) or Adelaide as they only accept school-leavers.
Also Adelaide does accept lower than 99+ UMAT for interstate kids - I know a large bunch of Victorians who got interviews at Adelaide first round with <99 (but their scores were still 95+ lol).

Is non-bonded at Monash likely for me with: umat 96 (71,53,66) and an atar 98+?
You'll have a good chance of getting an interview, and depending on your interview you may be able to get non-bonded. With a 99+ ATAR the chances will be much higher. (i do know people who bombed their interview with 99+ atar and >90 umat and missed out on a place entirely)

Needing help :) I am just completing Yr 12. What are my chances of doing Med with a UMAT of (63, 53, 54) 171 and 81 percentile. I have a predicted 99.05 ATAR and would prefer to study in WA but I am going to apply interstate too. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks :)
hey hey :) your scores are leaning on the edge a little --> WA has very limited number of spots in med, so your umat may not cut it. if you do get an interview, you probably will have to ace that to get in.
I do suggest applying interstate as well, e.g. Monash in Victoria, Adelaide (SA) and UNSW (NSW) - however once again these unis are all highly competitive, so you may not get an interview first round but please do watch out for later rounds as there are quite a number in my cohort (monash med) with similar scores.
To increase your chances = higher ATAR and prepare for the interviews

The people from your cohort, are they interstate? Maybe the requirements for monash are higher for interstate :/
I'm in the same cohort as HughMungus. Some of them are interstate and some are Victorians. The requirements are pretty similar for interstate kids and for those with a relatively lower UMAT, they must have aced the interview and may have also not been in the first round.

You are in with a shot. That score is ~op3 which is kind of on the borderline. But the selection for JCU is almost entirely based upon your application and interview with the ATAR being a hurdle for the spot. (op 3 and below and you should be fine)

As for getting an interview, make sure your application is spotless and insightful but honest. I remember our study group filling ours and everyone write down extraordinary things about themselves. JCU sees right through that and they were not offered an interview.

Bond on the other hand has a very low ATAR requirement and the UMAT was being taken off(don't quote me on that... A friend from Queensland told me) from what I heard. And it is expensive... Lol I am too poor for Monash, let alone Bond

UMAT = good (congrats on a great score!!)
ATAR = preferably higher (around 98/99+)
UNSW UG med is very competitive and although they say the minimum ATAR is 96, the median ATAR of the cohort is normally around a high 98.
Provided you also do well in the interview, your chances are looking quite good :)

I've heard their median ATAR for metro applicants is actually closer to 99.6 hahaha, higher than Monash these days

Not sure if I'm posting in the right spot, so please move this to another thread if my question isn't relevant.  :)

What's the difference between "median ATAR" and "clearly-in ATAR"? Does clearly-in mean the lowest ATAR for a course?

clearly-in is the minimum required ATAR to get into the course
median ATAR is probably a more realistic aim for competitive courses like med, because although the min is normally 95/96, due to competition the average ATAR is much higher around 98/99 (and those with a 95/96 will likely miss out)

Clearly in ATAR is what it says on the tin pretty much

Median ATAR is not an official VTAC thing. It is just the ATAR above which 50% of the cohort lies. The median ATAR for Med @Monash this year was 99.30 for example. So you can expect to find around half of the people quoting an ATAR at or above this threshold. For UNIs that do not give a clear clearly in ATAR (Monash Med for example) this is a good estimate of what you would want to be clearly in because despite the quoted '90 Minimum ATAR' the lowest ATAR of our COHORT is actually ~93 with heavy SEAS. Just to keep your options realistic as mtse said :D

As I answered here: Re: The "Will I get an interview/offer with this UMAT?" query for med and dent, a low/mid 98 ATAR is less likely. A high 98/99+ ATAR will give you a much higher chance of getting an interview and spot in the course at Monash.

From what I have heard about UQ, they have "reasonable" cutoffs. You should have a good chance with those scores and an OP1 :)

With a UMAT of 79%ile, what ATAR would be needed to make a competitive application at Monash? Or is 79%ile too low of a UMAT score?

What atar should I aim for if I got a 91 UMAT (S1:63 S2:50 S3:68) for Monash and Adelaide uni?
For Monash:
Anything above 99 would most likely get you an interview. Along with a good interview, your chances of getting in is pretty high.
A high 98 would probably get you an interview, but naturally, you'll need to do really well in the interview to guarantee a spot.
In other words, the higher the better.

For Adelaide:
not 100% sure but from what I know, first round interviews for interstate applicants are only offered if they get a UMAT of 95%ile and above. So with a 91%ile you may not get a first round interview (which takes place in early december), but may have a chance for second round interviews which take place in January.

Probably 99.95, and even that's not going to be super competitive.

So would you say it is virtually impossible to obtain a place in the program with my UMAT and without an ATAR of 99.95?

Well 99.90 and 99.95 open doors, so you could get a place :P I just wouldn't think your combination of scores would necessarily be above median, which is what I assumed you meant by 'competitive'. Have hope! :)

Hey there (welcome to atarnotes ;D )
Will need to know what state your from to give you a better idea...

but in general
Monash - good chance for interview (the higher your ATAR the better but 99.0 is looking good)
UNSW - UMAT is decent, ATAR is somewhat competitive - but UNSW is getting increasingly competitive each year (apparently 99.6 as the median ATAR), so to be more competitive a higher ATAR would be good

Not sure about UWS and JMP sorry
Hope this helps :)

Does Monash give any offers to Rural NSW applicants?
Otherwise what are the chances of an offer at UTAS, UON, UQ or UNSW?

Hi lasagne, congratulations on your UMAT score, that's amazing! Your UMAT + projected ATAR should definitely get you an interview. With a low 99 ATAR, you will have a much better chance to get into Monash provided you do well on the interview. Your SEAS will also help you.

Hi halo. Congratulations on your score. Can only speak from a Monash point of view: you should get an interview with your current UMAT score and projected ATAR. You'll need to do "very" well on the interview to get a spot if your ATAR is 98.5, and reasonably well if you ATAR is 99.5.

Hello!
Because of your disadvantaged financial background, if you've already submitted seas then you're automatically eligible for the Monash Guarantee. This means that, as far as I know, you would be guaranteed an interview if you get at least:
- 94 atar
- 175 umat (~87th percentile)

But when speaking in general, with an atar of 96 a competitive umat score would be 95+ but an atar of 98 would need at least a high 80s.

But this is according to what I know so far. The cut-off changes every year. Anyone, feel free to correct anything I said ;D

WSU and JMP do. Place offers are 100% on the interview, UMAT may be used only as a tiebreaker (for those on equal interview scores vying for the few remaining places).

You are not in the running for WSU & UTas due to the low UMAT S2 score.
Should get interviews with JMP & Adelaide, 1 in 4 and 1 in 7 chances respectively.

UNSW - 98.0 would be borderline for interview, 99.0 would definitely get an interview with about 40% admission chance.
Monash - being Vic you should get an interview whether 98 or 99, I'm not sure of your admission chance there.

You'll need around 97.5-98.0 as a minimum to get a Monash interview, but that gives you pretty low chance of scoring high enough with the interview to get a place offer. The higher ATAR than 98.0 you get the lower interview mark you will need, due to the 33/33/33 weighting.

Hello!
I got a UMAT of 91% (62, 58, 61 - Total: 181)
What are my chances for Monash and UNSW if my ATAR is 98.5+

I did miss out on the first round interviews for UNSW as I could not supply a predicted ATAR + my school is known to predict them really badly.

Also my friend got 96% UMAT and is looking at 97-97.5 ATAR - chances?

BTW we are both from NSW if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any input :)

Hey guys
Im very confused as to how everyone knows how to calculate their scores. Do I just add the percentage together??Somebody please help figure it  out. Also what score should i aim for to get a chance to be considered for say at UNSW???
I did an acer practice test and this is what i got;

Logic and Reasoning : 17/48 ( ik its extremely low) ---percentage 35
Understanding people: 41/44 ( i think this is good) --percentage 93
Non- verbal reasonning: 20/41 ( low again ) ---percentage 49

Total or overall : 35+93+49=177
Correct?
Also how do you calculate percentiles???

Thanksss

You can not calculate percentiles as those are dependent on how other people do on the exam. For example, if section one was very very tough your 17/48 may actually be considered a ‘good’ score and you could receive a high percentile if everyone else does terribly. It really just comes down to those around you. Also, the way ACER calculates your UMAT overall is very tight lipped.

I’ve heard however, that a 180/300 is roughly a 90th percentile while a 200/300 is a 100th percentile. ^this may not be accurate.

Of course!
85%+ UMAT is considered competitive.

S2 55
S3 51
Total 171

Expected ATAR: 97-99

Thank you!!

You’re pretty much guaranteed an interview anywhere you apply with a very good shot at gaining acceptance provided you don’t screw up.

Hello I was wondering what are my chances (if any) of getting into medicine. Here are my scores:((
S1: 41, S2: 43, S3: 49, total: 133, %ile: 24
SEAS for 3 categories
Expected ATAR: 98-99
Thank you!

Unfortunately, your UMAT is too low to be considered for any UMAT-dependent undergrad med schools, even with bonuses. However, you can still get into JCU and Bond (if you have the money), as they don’t look at UMAT. One other possibility is Griffith provisional MD via USC, which had a cut off of ~99.35 last year and is only based on ATAR.

Can we get into the extended rural cohort only nd only if we are rural? How rural do we need to be?

No you don't need to be rural to apply for the ERC, but you do need to be rural to apply for the Dean's Rural List to enter Monash medicine (if you're non-rural, don't worry about it)

Hi guys, I am new here and I was devastated as I thought I was doing very well in S3 - which then could bump up the %ile - but I only got 58 which was really out of my prediction
I got 74 % (165) all above 50, which uni should I apply for.
Do you think there is a chance if I submit for remark?
Thanks guys
Joan

Hey, guys,

Finally got used to my mark and the scolding I got from my dad  :-\ , but I was hoping I still have a chance for some uni. I got a 84% (62/52/60) and am non rural. Which unis would be willing to accept me for if I got an ATAR in the low 99s? Thanks!

I don’t think your UMAT is high enough for any UMAT dependent medical schools, however you can still apply for JCU as they don’t look at UMAT and have a look at the provisional medical schools if you are expecting a very high ATAR. I guess there is no harm in applying for a remark however I wouldn’t have any expectations of a higher result.

84th percentile is a solid mark, particularly since you passed every section. If you get an ATAR into the 99s, you should be good for interviews at Monash, Adelaide and JMP.

Thank you quantumm44! So would you recommend that I take medicine out of my preferences for monash because idk my careers counsellor said to never delete it but considering my low UMAT would I be better off replacing it with another course?
BTW how are you finding med in Adelaide?

You might as well leave Monash in your preferences. I did even though I knew I was ineligible for an interview just because it doesn’t matter at all unless you have another preference you want to put at the bottom of your list.

Med in Adelaide is great. Interesting course, unique vibe and culture to it. I’m honestly glad I moved interstate for uni as it’s such a good experience and college is a lot of fun.

I'm a WA school leaver and got UMAT scores of
S1: 55
S2: 60
S3 :61
which is 86 percentile
I've got a predicted ATAR of 99.80.
What are my chances for interview offers (for med) in Adelaide and over east? Thanks.

You should get an Adelaide interview (last year the cut off was 84th percentile) with a solid chance at an offer. You should also get interviews at Monash, UNSW and JMP however they are more difficult as they run interviews for interstate applicants a lot later.

Good chance for Adelaide as Quantum said, but will miss out on JMP (your S1 is less than 58) and WSU unless you are rural. Will miss out on UQ too, but JCU is worth an application! Also definitely apply for Griffith and Flinders as your atar would probs be high enough to get into those without umat or interviews. UNSW is worth a preference spot, but may be unlikely as they have stated a strong score in one section cannot cancel out lower ones in others.

Of course though if you are rural apply everywhere as you would have a decent shot everywhere!

An ATAR of ~98 will give you a good shot.

You should have a good chance at Monash and Adelaide. You’ll need a very good interview to score a UNSW offer though.

Forgot to mention that I am applying for EAS on the grounds of both medical and difficult circumstances. Assuming my EAS is accepted, how does that impact my offer chances for UNSW?

If your EAS is accepted, it should make a UNSW offer substantially easier, however I have still heard of plenty of people with insane scores getting rejected from UNSW so the interview is paramount, particularly since you are implicitly disadvantaged as an interstate applicant.

If I do average on the interview, am I guaranteed a place in medicine?

So, is the system in NSW broken??

My daughter got 95 in the UMAT, her predicted ATAR is 99. She will be the DUX of her school. The ATARS aren’t even out yet but she’s already been rejected by University of Newcastle and also didn’t get an interview from western Sydney University. It’s rather disheartening that she is in the top 5% of all applicants to medicine and can’t even get an interview. Just wondering if there’s anything she can do? Is there any recourse or avenue of appeal to the rejection from these Uni’s ??

I think Newcastle/JMP is based of section 1 score for interview invites, and I think this year's cut off was ~58 in section 1 for non-rural applicants. You can always try contacting the University's admission department by phone.

Good luck!
