Not any time soon; some UMEP students are yet to sit their exams

I think that they will start coming out on Wednesday probably. They usually start coming out in the last few days of the exam period.
That's my experience from the past 3 semesters.

I have only ever received subject scores before the "official release date" :S

Yep Levi, 16 until the final release.
However, we can still get results appear in the study plan as they are progressively marked.
These results can change until the 6/12, but most of them stay the same.

I have only ever received subject scores before the "official release date" :S

Me too! Mine have always come out so quickly.

Mine came out pretty quickly last semester as well :3
But not as quickly as those third-year commerce ones, I swear they were out before my German exam @_@

All of my results will be in on November 25th since my cohort is graduating in early December.

I think it says a lot about AN that most of the people who read this post would have looked at the mark/grade to see how well GG did before looking at the subject itself haha. Found myself seconds away from posting a congratulations.

That's how I roll: quality over quantity.

So I've "partied" in both Monash and UoM's semesters results threads now.  I can safely tick that off my bucket list.

Idk even though I'm only in first year I can't see that happening. Even though I know I've done relatively poorly this year through my own fault I've still been having nightmares about results almost every night, which is nothing in comparison to last year. I think it just comes down to the kind of person you are haha. I've always been fretful about this kinda stuff, despite how happy-go-lucky I am about almost everything else.

I just worked something out..
Last semester it was an average of 14 days between my exams and the results coming out for those exams.
So for people who did Research Based Phys, or Pathology, hopefully our results will come out today since it has been 2 weeks or more since our exams!

I believe the widget that shows subjects on the portal front page is the LMS widget. The result for one of my subjects came out yesterday and the widget STILL shows that subject.

No, if you go to student admin on the portal and through to the enrolment page and click "view all my currently enrolled subjects" or something, you'll get a list of all your subjects. If a result has come through for a subject, that subject will disappear from the list.

May as well just go to the study plan :P

They said this regarding results:

"Final results for Semester 2 2013 will be released at 3pm on December 6th. Results will be available in your portal from November 29th but these may be subject to change up until December 6."

Does that mean we won't be able to see our results in our study plan until the 29/11?

BIOL10003 - Genes and Environment
Passed
2013, Semester 2, Parkville, On Campus, Semester 2   Credit Points: 12.5
Mark: 88 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)

This is both semesters we've equalled each other... creepy!

Your notes still take the cake though!! The commitment...

This pattern is uncanny...inb4 we get the same scores for MCB and HSF!

Your notes were really good too! You explained some things a lot more better and concisely than I did. :)

BIOL10003 - Genes and Environment
Passed
2013, Semester 2, Parkville, On Campus, Semester 2   Credit Points: 12.5
Mark: 88 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)

Pretty damn happy with this. Massive panic when I realized I coloured in the wrong bubbles in a section B question, frantic amendment of my answers in the last 5 minutes!

I was also crucified in the genetics assignment. Goodbye biology assignments, you won't be missed!

MAST10016 - Mathematics for Biomedicine
Passed
2013, Semester 2, Parkville, On Campus, Semester 2   Credit Points: 12.5
Mark: 94 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)

I lost 3% on the math exam and I honestly don't know how -.-

It will be the exact same mark I heard. I think I only have one research unit marked. It must be a technicality that will definitely be cleared up by December 5th.

LOL I just emailed the coordinator and got this response:

I know that they have been entered into the system.  In the past they seem to have been available as soon as that happened.  If they are not already available then my guess is that none of them will be before the 6th.  That way everyone can log in together and have the system crash under the load,  just like enrolling in tutorials.  Enjoy!

Waiting game continues...

Two down, two to go...

2013   Semester 2   BIOL10005   Genetics & The Evolution of Life   89   H1   First Class Honours
2013   Semester 2   MAST10007   Linear Algebra   87   H1   First Class Honours

Not bad for someone who hasn't even done VCE Bio. :P And for the amount of work I put in this semester (apart from SWOTVAC, much effort put into cramming!)...

I don't even know I DIDN'T FINISH THE EXAMS FOR THOSE SUBJECTS

WWWAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTT

Here are the possible scenarios that I can imagine.
1. Your "didn't finish" costed you like one mark out of 500
2. Massive scaling, in which your score still means you did awesomely
3. You forgot which questions you completed
4. You got marks even by not completing the exam because your student ID is so well-known
5. You're lying to appear modest

Just how exactly does one get a 98 without finishing the exam anyway? I got 97 for physics semester 1 AND I finished the exam.
Oh wait, it's a calculated ploy to make us all look bad. Well played :P

I was certain I'd completely failed the exam since I left out a big chunk out of one of the sections (I'm that idiot who somehow winged their exams) and due to health reasons did abysmally in pracs and the mid-semester o_O

At least you attempted it. I love mathematics but the 80% exam weighting puts me off bigtime so I probably would have done awful in a subject like Calc 2 as well. My exam taking technique is awful enough as is (no sleep the night before, wing most of them, am always dizzy due to health problems etc).

An H2A is nothing to shrug off, 76 is still a great mark (I was stoked with a 79 for my thesis, even though just 1% more and it would have been added to the thesis archive).

Yeah the 80% exam is really annoying. In Masters the majority are 60%, but I don't do well with exams (even though I've been at uni for 5 years) as I suffer from anxiety. It doesn't matter whether I get between 90% and 100% in assignments, in exams the pressure really gets to me and my performance drops. I REALLY HATE EXAMS!!!

I have bad anxiety too along with horrible exam taking technique, which is why I usually try maximise my marks in non-exam assessments. I'm one of those people who also gets 90-100% in most assessments (providing I'm not overly ill) but have come to expect to do much much worse in the exam setting. I wish the exams weren't weighted as much. I'd say anything over 65% is good xD Mind you, I know for a fact my high school dux and everyone else from my high school who went to uni with me are struggling to get Ps yet here most of us are complaining about H2s/H1s.

GERM10005 - German 2
Passed
2013, Semester 2, Parkville, On Campus, Semester 2   Credit Points: 12.5
Mark: 89 Grade: First Class Honours (H1)

Another 89 for German! I'm honestly absolutely elated; I worked very hard throughout the semester over the eleven assessments but when exam time came I had to focus on Chem 2 and Genetics and I ended up with a single night to revise my German, AND the exam itself was far stranger and more poorly weighted than the one in German 1 (there were 35/100 points on the culture, which was not taught in class and used grammar and words outside our official vocabulary list). I was not expecting this at all (a la Genetics), but rather something closer to 70, after that horrible exam in which I desperately scrambled to write coherent passages. So yeah, I feel like this is as good, or better than I could have hoped to get after that dreadful exam.

tl;dr WOO HAPPY YES MARK GOOD YAY

Also, I think what Ballerina said is important, since this thread is biased towards traditionally high achievers, but really the marks being posted, for the most part, show a heap of competence, and marks aren't everything (particularly for those people who cannot function in exams, and I used to be like that, having an anxiety disorder myself - it's not really a fair way of assessing such people at all). If you were happy with your individual achievement before you came to this thread, you should stay happy with it after you leave!

Severely regretting screwing around in 1st year. Would have a 6.6-6.9 GPA I think if I could eliminate just sem 1 first year (sem 2 is when I picked up but my sem 1 was horrid).

Got two H1s so far: 93 and 94!

Waiting on one more subject, which I am fairly certain I got a H1 in as well. Looks like I am finishing this degree with a 6.88 GPA! Hope that puts me closer to my dream of undertaking educational research at Harvard or Stanford one day. :)

Man, you guys are legends! I am but a poor Arts student so I don't think my grades will stand up to these amazing scores.

I just have a question regarding GPA, does anyone know whether pass/fail subjects are included in the calculation? If they're not, does that mean you would calculate it out of 23 subjects instead of 24 (that is, if you've only completed one pass/fail subject)?

That is amazing; well done. The chemistry exam was definitely not scaled because I received 80+ for the chem midsemester test and all pracs, and my chemistry result is below. Guess who's not doing chemistry next year?

2013   Semester 2   BIOL10005   Genetics & The Evolution of Life   80   H1   First Class Honours
2013   Semester 2   CHEM10004   Chemistry 2   58   P   Pass

2013   Semester 2   UNIB10006   Critical Thinking With Data   81   H1   First Class Honours

Title: Re: 2013 Semester 2 Results Thread
Post by: Shenz0r on November 29, 2013, 10:18:37 pm
The final essay is meant to be a critical review of a piece of literature in the history of medicine, or a TV show/film/whatever. For the highest marks you need to try to link up the ideas in whatever you're reviewing with the themes discussed in the lectures (there is quite a heavy emphasis on reductionism throughout the whole subject).

I don't really know where I went wrong on the essay since there are no comments left behind though. I haven't heard of too many people scoring H1 on the subject so far. 50% of your mark is determined by the essay and that's solely marked by your tutor. My tutor happened to be the lecturer and I think he's one of the more stricter markers.

You'll realise that when you get to uni a lot less will care as much (unless it's a result that will get you into postgrad or something similar), it's not VCE anymore (well first years may still care a bit but after that it seems to taper off a a bit more), and AN isn't really representative of the student population :P

Yeah. You go to the study plan, which is meant to just that, a record of your enrolled subjects and you'll be able to see results for your current semester subjects there before they formally go into the "my recent results" bit.

Back in the day, before the new portal and study plan, we had to use the automated "email me my results" option in order to get results that were in the system but not appearing yet #nostalgia

I know. It's definitely warranted for students who sacrificed all throughout semester and shed blood, sweat and tears for their marks to be excited and F5ing for results. I didn't though, I went to the beach rofl. so many bikinis

I have a subject where i want to inspect my exam script, if the subject coordinator is away until after that, does that mean a remark is not possible?

I reckon that's poor commitment to duties if they are just going to escape on holidays and not allow students to request for exam viewings and/or remarkings. Anyone got any ideas of what I should do?

You're entitled to see your script. If the coordinator is away, ask them whether there is somebody else at the university who will organize it for you or whether it is possible to do it when they return and still be able to appeal a mark.

I reckon that's poor commitment to duties if they are just going to escape on holidays and not allow students to request for exam viewings and/or remarkings. Anyone got any ideas of what I should do?

I tried to argue with my subject coordinator that I should be able to view my exam and have my exam remarked before results are released and was sent back this.

As per uni policy on assessment

13.   Feedback to Students
13.1  Subject Coordinators will ensure that students are provided with formative and summative feedback about their academic performance.

13.2  Students are forbidden to communicate with examiners about the result of a assessment component before the publication of results of that component, and feedback should only be initiated once results are known. As results are not yet officially published I am unable to initiate any feedback as you are forbidden to speak to me about this via policy

13.3  Any necessary enquiry prior to the publication of results should be made in writing to the Executive Director (Student Services) and Academic Registrar.

13.4  Comments should indicate to students how they have performed against assessment criteria. Wherever possible, comments should further indicate how a student can improve their performance, and ideally indicate what should be done specifically to achieve outstanding results.

13.5  In order for feedback to be provided about performance in examinations, a student should be able to discuss their answers with an examiner.

13.6  Students may request access to their examination scripts in accordance with the following:
The faculty does not allow exam viewings until after the supplementary exams.  As per the booking booking website;  Please note: an exam viewing appointment is an opportunity to discuss your exam, not to request a remarking of your paper or to request additional marks. It is an opportunity for feedback only http://fbe.unimelb.edu.au/csc/assessment/appointments).

If you do view your paper and in the rare event you discover an addition error with either your exam paper or total marks I will arrange to have your grade corrected, we can correct errors at any time. If after viewing your paper you feel you were not marked against the marking guide and/or scaled unfairly you are welcome to follow the student complaints and grievance procedure, section 3 (http://policy.unimelb.edu.au/MPF1067).

Also, it's been applied to the entire UoM subforum, and most of the posts people make here (and in the other university subforums) are directly helpful ones, which warrant the respect system even if you don't believe people should gain respect from their grades. I doubt people look at the respect count much anyway, it's more like a silent congratulations we can give to people for being helpful or doing well >.>

Respect was removed from the entire uni boards. If you'd like to give feedback on this, feel free to make a post in the suggestions board. Please don't derail this thread with it.

It's okay, they need something to compensate for the natural discrimination that comes from being Monash in comparison to us ;)

Thanks for your congratulations guys.

Surely you will be eligible for some prizes darlok!  Is it March because it coincides with the Honours lists?
