Title: com/eng at Monash vs. com/masters eng at UoM
Post by: aestheticatar on December 20, 2013, 12:48:55 am
Ey, I've got my eyes set on bachelor of commerce and bachelor of engineering at monash (mainly cos i live super close to clayton and my mates are also doing it). Should I be considering bachelor of commerce then masters of engineering at UoM? Thanks heaps in advance! :)

This is exactly the decision that I'm faced with, so I hope I can offer you some advice.
At this stage I'll be choosing Melbourne's program, but overall it seems like there'd hardly be any difference between the two.
My reasons for my decision are:
- Better ranking + brand, although I do ultimately realise this is a minor thing.
- Location is a little bit better for me.
- Melbourne commerce department is (from what I'm told), much better.
- Chancellor's scholarship benefits (Money, mentoring, opportunities) outweigh the Monash benefits in my opinion.
However don't let any of this change your mind too much, I was set on Monash for the past year until yesterday :p

EDIT:

Also the Melbourne course has EUR-ACE accreditation whereas Monash does not.

My opinion for you: go to Monash. Super close = super convenient. But if you're still tossed-up about where to go, have a look at the thread in my signature. It explains the differences between UoM's course structure for engineering and other 4 year B.Eng degrees (such as Monash).
