Hey does anyone know of any universities offering Science/Acturial Studies double degrees or something similar?
-
nope, you could however, do a science degree majoring in maths, learning all the maths you need to pass part 1:
As an alternative to completing Part I through an accredited university, the Institute has arranged that its student members are able to sit the Part I examinations offered through the IoA (London), which are held twice yearly, in April and September.

Is it possible to do a science degree major while still taking the math courses required for actuaries?
Or is it somehow to possible to major in both a science subject and maths?
-
if you want to major in something other than maths, i don't think you would be able to fit in all the courses you need to pass part 1 exam. you'd have to self study the missing bits. see the 'core reading' section of the link above.

The only university that has an accredited actuarial program is Melbourne University. Since the Melbourne Model, you can't do any double degrees, but you can do B.Com and do some science subjects as your breadth or you can do B.Sc and do the actuarial breadth subjects.
Last year Monash started to offer actuarial studies but the only problem is that their program isn't accredited and when I asked Graham Forbes (the guy who is in charge of the actuarial studies program), he said that it should be fully accredited in two years time.
-
I believe it is possible for the Monash actuarial program to be accredited retrospectively, but that isn't guaranteed. That's your only bet I think.

Hmm so do you reckon doing enough actuarial breadth subjects could be enough?
-
go ANU
Wow!
Bachelor of Actuarial Studies/Bachelor of Science
ENTER: 95
Not bad at all

That's the question I couldn't get answered because if the people there said, "No", then no one would do it, would they?
However, when I asked, they said that I could do B.Sc and major out in Maths while doing actuarial studies breadth subjects. After I complete my B.Sc, if I really wanted to be an actuary, I could do further study afterwards.
Don't quote be on this, but although you'll be doing B.Sc and majoring out in Maths, but I don't think you would be doing a lot of "science" subjects such as Chem or Physics.

lol my head of year really doesn't want me to go to ANU... i dunno why but he keeps asking me to talk to people at Melbourne Uni

Chase your dreams, not other's ideas. That course at ANU sounds brilliant, if you have enough support to go to ANU, meet the entry requirements, and that is what you want to study, then go for it, nothing should be stopping you.

Actuarial is far from a secure job btw. lol
Actuarial is within financials, and financials is quite volatile so actuarial is not the most secure job. But its far more safe than actual real fin jobs lol :)
