Hi so i've been torn between going to monash or melbourne uni for the last few months
So far these are my pros and cons for the two unis
Monash:
Pros:
- It still offers double degrees
- I hear after a course they offer work placement (not sure about this)
Cons:
- Lower rankings and worse facilities from what i've heard
- 2-3 times the distance from where i live compared to melbourne
Melbourne
Pros:
- Higher rankings (i know people say it's not important but i kinda feel it might be, i dunno)
- Nice facilities
- Closer to where i live
Cons:
- NO DOUBLE DEGREES (i'm a little confused about breadth but i hear it's an alternative to double degrees)

To answer your question about breadth: you get to do six subjects outside your area of study. These subjects don't make a formal qualification, though you can add on a diploma to do that (e.g. diploma of languages, diploma of IT etc etc.)

If comm is what you are 100% serious about go to UoM since they have the better reputation and chance for networking etc
I think commerce is the one degree you would want to go to melb over momash (that is if you dont want a double)
If you arent sure or really want to do a double go to monash
What would your double be?

I think it's entirely dependent on what you want to double with? I'm doing Eng/Comm at the moment @ Melb, but they took that away this year - so if that's your double then you should go to Monash or maybe even RMIT.
If it's Comm/law I'd go Monash, because I've heard the selection process for the JD at Melb is quite strenuous and difficult.
If you want to do Comm/arts, go Melbourne. You can easily do breadth arts subjects of your choice at Melbourne.
