I saw a post saying they saw their WAM change. So, it begins. For the seventh time for me.
Please keep the important information regarding results discussion in mind before posting.

Topic has been stickied :)
Does UoM really release results so early?

They dribble out when they’re ready, yep. Some faculties are extremely efficient :)

Yeah, one of the subjects (Stochastic modeling) that had exam on 31st actually released the result on 10th, some record-breaking speed of marking ;)
-
I've had a WAM change - a nice one upwards. Either Real Analysis or Foundations of Computing, I'd say - has anyone who took one of those had a change? I'm betting the latter.
-
Here we go - final semester marks.
FAT, Derivs, Corp Fi or Auditing was updated into WAM; I'm thinking it may have been FAT - can anyone confirm?

not derivatives
-
Genes and Genomes already out??
-
Remember that the #1 result is that you finished the semester in one piece!
Good luck to all, hope you smashed it :).

Not Corp Fi :)

meanwhile at monash only just recieved marks for the final assignment for one of my subjects (which was submitted ~45 days ago, although apparently the markers were sick) :'( :'(
Also one of my units has a end of semester examination spot in the gradebook so possible although unlikely that we might get our exam mark and then can calculate total unit score.

Still waiting on getting both the second last and last assignments back for one of my subjects, so it's not just Monash.
WAM updated yesterday, going up ever so slightly, pretty sure it's Electricity: An experimental history.

My record for an assignment has been 7 months #dreamlarge

Either intro macro, intro econometrics, competition & strategy, or MFI just caused a WAM update. Pretty sure it was intro macro.
-

Not C&S, fk i want to know what my C&S score was :P
-
Could have been macro unless one of IFA, intro to actuarial or accelerated maths 2 also changed.
Wasn't intro to actuarial :P
-
I reckon either Sports Coaching or Cells to Societies came out.. more likely the first IMO
-
Another WAM update
Either Thinking scientifically, FoEN or Eng Mech. I think it may be FoEN though, as we got back assessment 4 and 5 today
-
is COMP10002 or MAST10007 results out?!
-

Ok cool, must be thinking scientifically then!
-
is COMP10002 or MAST10007 results out?!
My WAM changed this morning and I think COMP10002 may have come out... my WAM plummeted so would be about right :/// They finished marking because Alistair has put up the grade distributions up: http://people.eng.unimelb.edu.au/ammoffat/teaching/10002/exam/
Looks like a quarter of the class failed the exam, and thats with a mark up!!
-
is COMP10002 or MAST10007 results out?!
Can confirm isn't MAST10007
-
I've had a WAM change - think it's Genes and Environment or EDDA, can anyone confirm?
-
I think MAST10007 Linear Algebra results may be out
-
WAM changed. Anyone think Music and Health is out?
-
WAM changed. Anyone think Music and Health is out?
Nah it’s not, mine changed too but my mate is also doing music and health did not have a wam change
-
Nah it’s not, mine changed too but my mate is also doing music and health did not have a wam change
Cooool. Anyone doing molecular analysis of cell function?
-
somehow squeezed out an 82 in German 8, good way to soften the blow of hsf which will take my wam down to a single digit number
-
WAM changed today, could be due to auditing, EPM or tax law? Anyone able to confirm? :)
-
one of these came out on 21st:
Business finance
statistics
financial maths 2
inter macro
can someone confirm? im thinking BF or FM2
-

Not auditing
-
Got a WAM change, does anyone know if Physics 2 PHYC10004 is out?
-
I did inter macro and mine changed yesterday so possibly that
Nah it's not
-
Still waiting for the September intensive (FRST20014) result to come out. Does it usually take this long?
-
Not auditing
changed again today haha - hoping this time it's auditing :/
-

Im still waiting too :( very weird
-
Just had my WAM change. Could be BIOL10005, CHEM10004 or Principles of Finance. Really hoping its principles of finance, cause the mark is quite low.
-

I did Chem and Biol but don't see a WAM change so I reckon its finance
-

It only just changed for about 5 minutes ago.
-
It only just changed for about 5 minutes ago.
I've tried refreshing a few times over the past couple minutes and no change yet
-
Thanks. Really hoping it is finance, I'm quite content with the mark if it is.
-
Human Physiology results are out! Crazy quick considering the exam was less than 2 weeks ago.
-
I think it might of released now
Inter macro isn't out, my Wam hasnt changed
-
My WAM updated. It’s either Corp Fi or 3rd yr Econometrics, anyone?
-

It's Ecom, not Corp Fi
-
It's Ecom, not Corp Fi
Thanks! Slacked all semester and was super afraid of how Ecom was gonna turn out. Really pleased to know I’ll be graduating this semester
-
Investments or Inter macro came out, can anyone confirm?
Edit: Pretty sure it's investments.
-
Something else is out - Corp Fi/Derivs/Auditing
Money is on Corp Fi
-
Something else is out - Corp Fi/Derivs/Auditing

Corp Fi :))) so pleased

Am I reading his email right? Exam marked up 10?
-
Am I reading his email right? Exam marked up 10?
Jesus, no wonder i did so well LOL
-
Just had another WAM increase. It has to be either BIOL10005 or CHEM10004 (or possibly both)
-
Am I reading his email right? Exam marked up 10?
exact same thing happened last semester, way too many people failed so everyone got +10 on the exam
-

Which one do you reckon it is? Its a higher mark than I expected for both but wouldnt be surprised if chem got marked up
-

Definitely much higher than I was expecting (higher than either from SEM 1). I reckon its chemistry, just because the mark seems too high for biology considering and I know that chemistry will have been scaled a bit.
-
WAM just changed again. I think BIOL10005 and CHEM10004 are both out.
-
WAM just changed again. I think BIOL10005 and CHEM10004 are both out.
My WAM hasn't changed.
Edit: My WAM just changed. Both the BIOL10005 and CHEM10004 marks are out. Not sure which is which but they are both higher than I expected.
-
Just had a wam change for either C&S, intro econometrics or MFI

Lol same I'm very surprised for both

Not C&S

Not C&S
I guess it must be metrics then, much better than I expected if so :)
-
I think micro economics is available
-
Anyone know if Calc 2 is up yet?
-
Anyone know if Introductory Financial Accounting, BLaw or APA have affected WAMs yet?
-
I think FoEN came out.. that exam was brutal.
-
Real Analysis hit WAM yesterday - 99% sure.
-
Either FoEN or Engmech came out
-
Inter macro out? Either that or compstrat
-
Can confirm at this point IFA has not
Mind checking again? My WAM has just changed again.
-
Inter macro out? Either that or compstrat
I had a wam change too so most likely c&s
-
Either FoEN or Engmech came out
My WAM updated late last night then again early this morning, I think last night was FoEN and this morning was Mech. Part of me is praying they adjusted the FoEN marks up hahahah, given it's an odd time to upload marks to wam
-
Hey! Can anyone confirm whether auditing came out just now?
-
Hey! Can anyone confirm whether auditing came out just now?
Yeah confirming. Did about as well as I expected (average)
-
Is Music and Health or Forests in a Global Context Out?
-
My wam changed in the morning, prolly it was business law and then it changed again in afternoon, and i think it was calc 2.
-
WAM change for drugs for the nervous system happened one hour ago.
Good luck everyone
-

I'm pretty sure you're right about it being both, although scaling up would certainly be nice!
-

the mark is also out now
-
My wam changed in the morning, prolly it was business law and then it changed again in afternoon, and i think it was calc 2.
My wam changed somewhere between 12 and 2pm, for me it could be calc 2 or ESD2 (or both). ESD2's exam was earlier, and my result release times for both semesters so far have all been reflected in the exam dates, but can't confirm right now. Probably calc 2 given that yours changed too and you believe it to be calc 2.
-
Can anyone confirm if Virology or Frontiers for Biomed marks have been updated yet?
Techniques In Immuno. marks just got released but the mark I got and the change in my WAM don't add up so now I'm confused

I did ESD2 and mine didn't change, so it's probably calc 2
-
Hoe everyone's happy with results :)
In general, if you get a 79 for a subject is it possible to contact the coordinator and bump it up? Would it even be worthwhile attempting?
Thanks!

No lol
-
The principles of finance exam only got marked up by 10 marks, I did much better on the exam than I thought I did.
-
Think derivs just got updated into WAM :'(
-
has principles of finance affected WAMs yet?
-
Think derivs just got updated into WAM :'(
Yep, definitely Derivs. Was expecting much higher grade based on the semester honestly.
I wonder how did they standardise the grades though, considering that I reckon most got the first 5 questions right while not many would be able to do the last question.
-
Hey guys, so my wam just updated and its a subject worth 25 cred points, how can I work out what my grade is?
Thank you :)
-

no. of subjects included in wam before the update = y
[wam now x ( y+2) - ( wam before x y)]/2

Came out yesterday.

Comes up with XX.40 so I must be doing something wrong haha
-
FRST20014 finally got added to the WAM :)
-
Does anyone know how scaling actually works with results? Is it the exam marks which are generally scaled or is it the final marks for the subject which are scaled?
If it is the final marks, would the subject coordinator say add 5 points to everybody's final mark, or would they add a different number of points depending on where you sit in the cohort (e.g. add 7 points to a score of 40 and add 3 points to a score of 80)?
If it is the exam they scale, do they add marks to everybody's exam score as above or do they change the total number of marks the exam is out of (e.g. change the total marks from 100 to 90 instead)?

I'm pretty sure there's no convention for what happens. If you want to know the precise method of scaling for a specific subject, it's probably best to ask the subject coordinator, although I'd expect them to say that it's confidential. The closest you can get without asking them directly would just be to view your exam and calculate your raw score yourself.

Thanks for your reply. You're probably right regarding confidentiality, since students don't generally find out exactly how marks are scaled.

Echoing the words of Stolenclay above. However, have a look at the guidelines on standardisation on the unimelb site:
https://policy.unimelb.edu.au/MPF1326#section-4.25
Have a look at section 4.90 - "Whenever adjustment takes place it must be documented and transparent, and the method defined and available to students."
So, technically, under university guidelines it appears to me that any standardisation must be available to students - whether that means you have to ask them? I'm not sure.
-

This is interesting... I'd say it may be worth a try then if you're comfortable telling them that this policy makes it necessary for them to tell you. If anything, I would bring it up at the exam viewing; I personally wouldn't react very well to someone telling me in an email that I have to disclose something to them because of a policy that I didn't know about.

Thanks for your replies! If I view my exam and I have a reason to suspect the exam was scaled, I'll ask the coordinator. :)
-

ah 2nd semester of 2nd year biomed means you did MCB already right? count MCB as 2 subjects. if it still isn't right then another subject is also included already
-
Anyone know if BLaw is out?
-
1-2 hours ago another subject came out, it's either physics 2 (PST), ESD2 or Linear Algebra (guessing engineering?). Right now two out of those three should be out :)
-

Its esd2
-
Anyone know if BLaw is out?
Yeah blaw is out, my wam updated today, also confirmed with my friends
-
hey guys are you getting an 'unauthorised access' message when trying to look at results and other student admin functions including re-enrolment?
-
I did yesterday and early this morning, but it seems to be working right now (no errors :) )
A bit OT, but when re-enrolling for the 2nd year of my course and confirming the "Highest Level of Participation Details", do we leave it unchanged or include "Incomplete Bachelor" for 2017?
Thanks.
-
derivatives and international finance came out today, and I think also forests in a global context (the marks are out for it on the LMS)
-
Gee chem2 must have been scaled heaps because I didn’t even answer much on that exam...
-
Is Music and Health or Forests in a Global Context Out?
My WAM also changed today. I feel like it is Music and Health. It's either that or 2nd yr pharmacology.
-

Got my wam up from 74 to 79 - is that respectable for first year?
-
Got my wam up from 74 to 79 - is that respectable for first year?
I would say anything above 65 is great, you are on 79, still you have two more years to get it in 80s. Enjoy your vacations mate.
-
So bit of a downer here, but genuinely seeking some advice.
I've unfortunately failed a subject (46 so close yet so far). Is there really anything I can do about it (i doubt there are resits or anything?) or should i just accept it and move on? Do I have any hope in it changing between now and the offical results release?
Its terrible but I feel some relief that at least I wasn't the only one as 94/426 failed even after a bump up on the exam :P
-

It may be possible for you to get a supplementary exam seeing as your result is between 45-49%. Email the coordinator, you've got nothing to lose. At worst they say no, at best you get another chance. It's very subject dependent. I got 46% on a subject last semester but unfortunately I wasn't allowed to have a supplementary exam but I know other people in other subjects were able to.
-
Got my wam up from 74 to 79 - is that respectable for first year?
Yeah, ATARNotes just attracts some absurdly smart people so don't feel bad lol. 79 is a fantastic WAM.
-
got lower than expected for comp & strat :'(

All me done
2017 Semester 2 ECON20001 Intermediate Macroeconomics 1 83 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 ELEN20005 Foundations of Electrical Networks 1 72 H2B Second Class Hons B 12.500
2017 Semester 2 ENGR20004 Engineering Mechanics 2 83 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 FNCE30001 Investments 1 86 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
Pretty good except for FoEN - I'm still annoyed by that absolutely ridiculous exam that we were given, and it appears they didn't bother to make adjustments for it either.
Pretty stoked with 83 for Eng Mech, without a doubt the hardest subject I've ever done at university and to get a H1 when I didn't know what was going on half the time is surprising to say the least.
Good luck for everyone else :)
-
All mine are out, pretty good sem :)
2017 Semester 2 ECOM20001 Introductory Econometrics 1 87 H1 First Class Honours 12.500

2017 Semester 2 ENGR10003 Engineering Systems Design 2 94 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 MAST10007 Linear Algebra 94 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 PHYC10004 Physics 2: Physical Science & Technology 90 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
Pretty happy with most of these marks especially considering my exam timetable (at the start of the exam period I had a 4pm exam then the next day an 8:30am and 1:15pm exam).
Bit disappointed with micro econ, was hoping for higher considering how I'd done during the semester but found the exam wasn't always clear with what they wanted (particularly the last part).
So proud of my physics mark - went from knowing almost nothing and being confused all semester to knowing it pretty well and doing well on the exam :D definitely wasn't expecting a mark like this during the semester.
Very happy with eng and linear algebra but guessing they scaled the linear exam a bit.
Managed to push my WAM up a bit ;D just annoyed that it's 0.6 off what I want haha.
-
Mine are out too, a bit disappointed in my IFA mark, but overall reasonably happy. WAM for my 1st year sits at exactly 80 :/
2017 Semester 2 ACCT10002 Introductory Financial Accounting 2 71 H2B Second Class Hons B 12.500
2017 Semester 2 ACCT10003 Accounting Processes and Analysis 1 78 H2A Second Class Hons A 12.500
2017 Semester 2 ECON10003 Introductory Macroeconomics 1 83 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 FNCE10002 Principles of Finance 1 85 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
-
I wasn't the only one as 94/426 failed even after a bump up on the exam :P
let me guess, comp10002?
-
HPSC10001 From Plato To Einstein 66 H3
FNCE10002 Principles of Finance 75 H2A
BIOL10005 Genetics and the Evolution of Life 89 H1
CHEM10004 Chemistry 2 93 H1
Both the biology and chemistry marks are consistent with last semester, very happy with them. The breadth subjects let me down this semester, but my WAM is 76 and hopefully next year I can bring it up to 80
-
2017 Semester 2 ACCT20002 Intermediate Financial Accounting 92 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 ECOM20001 Introductory Econometrics 86 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 ECON20001 Intermediate Macroeconomics 89 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
2017 Semester 2 FNCE20001 Business Finance 93 H1 First Class Honours 12.500
Toughest semester I've had academically, spiritually and emotionally (countless existential crises throughout the semester), but things turned out alright in the end. Good job to everyone else for surviving the year! c:
-
let me guess, comp10002?
yup lol
-
yup lol
I hope it wasn't a prerequisite for something in your major. How did you do in your projects? I did not give the exams for any subjects this semester (have special consideration so exams in dec) but am only really scared about my prospects in this subject.
-
Awesome to see you're still killing it, even in postgrad.
Did you ever take programming electives to complement your maths skills? Or are you doing anything software-related in your spare time?
I did computational physics in undergrad, which was basically C for physicists
Also did numeric/symbolic in third year, which covered MATLAB + Mathematica
Doing a subject called Computational Differential Equations next semester which is going to be looking at how computers solve DEs
So yeah you do have to do some programming in maths

First year of Uni done...hard to believe, it has gone so insanely fast. Pretty happy with my results for the year but hoping to lift my WAM a bit. Sitting on 82.625.
