Hi all! Use this thread to share and discuss results for UoM 2018 Sem 1. :)

Just wondering how long it usually takes for results to come out :~}
Also, do first sem students get updated WAM as well? or is it only for pre-existing students who already has past results.
So if one of my subject releases one of their results, my WAM would become the result of that subject? (first year, first sem)

Check previous year's results threads to get an idea of approximate dates, you'll normally have all your results before the official results day though. First sem students will get an updated WAM, but you are virtually playing a guessing game about which subjects get updated.
Also this thread is already posted and I've only done one of my four exams, jeez. :( Good luck to everyone else still going!

Hello! First year student here, where exactly do we go to check our results?
Hey there! Just go to the student portal and under 'student admin' go onto the exams & results page, in which you can view the 'view recent results' page. Your results (most likely) would not have been put into the system yet, but they'll pop up there within the next 1-2 weeks! :)

Yep my wam moved (twice)...I reckon the latter move of mine was from inter micro (exam was 4 days prior to CFDM, and an hour shorter). More likely than not that corp law (BLAW20001) is out - this exam was 3 days before inter micro

Edit: for a subject, are results released all at the same time/same day? Like could you have a bunch of students from a cohort get their results for a subject on one afternoon and the remaining get it the next morning?

Is this the norm for subjects with hard exams? Don't think I'll be able to pass probability if the exam or final results don't scale 😅😥
If a lot of people end up failing the subject (I mean, >30%) or a large group of students are sitting around 45-49 then it is highly likely that the coordinator will scale the subject up. That being said, if there's also a large amount getting high H1s in the subject as well then, if scaling was to occur at all, it'd be pretty small.
BUT, from what I've heard about the Probability exam (my friends said it was AWFUL and are just praying for a pass), I'm sure it'll be scaled up so don't worry! :)

Yep, can 100% confirm as it's the only subject for this semester on my diploma ... And looks like they scaled the shit out of it, still got my lowest ever score but it's not a complete WAM destroyer . Glad to know I don't have to take QM1 and completely rearrange my plans :D
Yep, lowest ever score here too - but I was super sick throughout the whole exam period and I'm sitting this one again in the special exam period, thank god. At least I know I'll have a pass if I'm still too sick come mid-July!

Looks like Probability is out.
Don't think I passed unless Real Analysis came out and I did poorly in both (which I doubt). Was wanting to go down the Stats major but I'm not sure what to do now.

I reckon this second one you’ve had is chem. I haven’t had any changes in the past 10 minutes and my subjects are PHYS, ANAT and a random other one.

My WAM's moved 4 times, but only 2 subjects (ECOM20001 Econometrics 1; ECON20002 Inter Micro) have appeared (BLAW20001 Corp Law; and FNCE20005 CFDM yet to display)

A bit off topic, but are these results official? I spoke to someone at Stop 1, and they said that some results might change because they haven't officially come out yet (they come out on the 6th of July). Has anyone had this happen to them?

Once it's adjusted the WAM I'm pretty sure it can't change.

This is not true. However, it is quite rare to see the marks change after they've been released.

Hi everyone,
For a 25 point subject, how would our wam change? For example if I did 3 subjects:
12.5 points — 75%
12.5 points — 83%
25 points — 80%
And my previous wam was 77, how would I calculate my new wam?

It would be weighted twice as heavy as a normal 12.5 credit subject. So your WAM would be (75+83+80+80)/4 = 79.5%

I assume these scores are scaled, because getting 99 while dropping a midsem mark, losing assignment marks and leaving parts of questions blank on the final is otherwise impossible....
edit1: Either way, not complaining! Just happy I broke H1 since this semester has honestly been a 'disaster'
edit2: Everyone doing Finance was given 15 extra marks in the exam so I guess after this adjustment I got over 100% for the Final exam.

Wow no way...I did PoF in sem 1 last year, and Asjeet gave us 6 extra exam marks (there was a printing exclusion with the very last question, which was worth 8 marks, and the edit was announced by speakerphone with 15 min left). I've also heard that in sem 2 last year, Howard Chan gave students 10 extra exam marks (he just made the subject damn harder).
Seems like the exam must have been quite difficult this sem...?

Not really. I found the exam even easier than Micro and I finished with half an hour to go. The multichoice was a real killer I think since probably most of them gave you 4 statements and asked which ones were correct or wrong, and some of the statements given were tricky (but reasonable), so you would get wrong the entire question if you knew whether 3/4 of the statements were true/false but didn't understand one of the statements.
The final question probably also threw people off since you had to identify errors in someone's NPV calculation, but wrong errors apparently would make you LOSE marks, and that was worth 16 marks. I think the only question I had real trouble with was the 'Frontier Curve' question where you just had to label its elements on the diagram, but I didn't study that slide since I didn't expect this to be on the exam.
EDIT: Overall, I do think the extra 15 marks was excessive (maybe weak cohort?) but I'm not complaining, it's the only reason why my WAM is H1!

Nice - I finished mine with around half an hour to go as well (I spent a fair amount of time on the last question of my paper).
Same, I found PoF way easier than micro. Now looking back, I have no idea how I managed to be so lost in drawing simple supply/demand diagrams LOL (somehow I scraped H1 in intro micro tho). Heads up - 2nd-year micro is really hard, and it's legit almost all maths. 2nd-year finance - FNCE20005 CFDM - is also much harder, with way dodgier MCQs (i.e. D = more than one of the above is correct, E = none of the above). I think every subject in 2nd-year is twice as hard as their 1st-year prereqs...Econometrics 1 is probably at least 3x harder than QM1 btw (and don't get me started on comparing BLAW10001 PBL with BLAW20001 Corp Law).
Ahhh the frontier curve...10-mark question right? Yeah we were also required to do the same thing as you guys. I actually asked my friend to open the CAPM lecture slides on his phone, and checked the diagram 15 minutes before the exam started...worked a wonder ahaha
LOOOL then again, unimelb did lower the ATAR cutoff for commerce to 93 eek...PoF also pushed my WAM way up haha

It seems that it's usually the 1st-year subjects that get the benefits of scaling (with ECON10003 Intro Macro being an exception - assigned to a bell curve, and scaled down). And I'm more sure than not that FNCE20005 CFDM is raw and not scaled sigh...
4. Does Dean's List cutoff for commerce drop slightly for 2nd-year students? For 1st-year, I know 3 from my old school who are on it, and I think the top 3% are located above 87 or so (don't quote me on that, just an educated guess). And because 2nd-year subjects are way harder, maybe it'll drop to 85 or so?

Amazed how quickly the results came through. Comp Eco in particular came out two days later after the exam... ridiculous. To those who did Corp Fi, exam results are on the LMS which is handy. Nice way to finish the degree!

This semester was my worst so far - first time I’ve gone as low as a H3, although my wam actually improved. Annoyingly, I’m more worried about my gpa which has now died a sad death in GENE20001.

Ver is version of the results. These results may be changed to new versions until the actual release date. Although it is highly unlikely that your results change once they are on the results page unless it is something like them forgetting to include portions of the exam or other internal assessment in your score.

Do you have a source for this? Not meaning to be a prick; it's just that "Ver" has been a long-time mystery on AN now, with a couple of different conjectures as to what it means :P

For anyone looking at this thread and feeling depressed at everyone's insane scores: don't stress, they're not indicative of an average student because 1) people tend to only post scores if they're good and 2) AN tends to draw in overachievers. Here's some of my first year grades if you want a confidence boost :D

Third year so.. hopefully I can answer :P
1. Definitely worse. Subjects are that much harder, and even in third year I'm still trying to arrest a slide in my WAM.
2. Yes, this is possible. It all comes down to the quality of the notes you bring into the exam, and your writing style. Did you follow IRAC? Did you identify all of the relevant principles and apply them? Did you miss out on something?
3. Yes, subjects still get scaled, but this is at the discretion of the lecturer.

For anyone looking at this thread and feeling depressed at everyone's insane scores: don't stress, they're not indicative of an average student
For some extra perspective: the average WAM for a commerce student is somewhere between 65-70, whereas a top 3% WAM is about 85. People getting consistently high 80's-90's are inside the top <1% of students.

Emailed immediately. Marks changed within a day or two of discovering the issue

This semester was hectic, what with being sick and holding down two jobs. I'm not happy, but I'm not too mad. (Very glad to be retaking Probability when I'm hopefully a little less ill.)
