Use this thread to list each of your subjects - no matter what year level - from favourite to least favourite. You can keep adding to the list as you progress, and then, eventually, also make a list for your uni subjects. :D

I'm going to start by ranking all of my VCE subjects from favourite to least favourite.

Absolutely hated Chemistry and changed it to IT Apps for Year 12. Best decision I ever made. Isn't it interesting my top subjects are now my teaching method areas :P I think the teacher I had also had a massive influence on this order as well. IT Apps is only up the top because I enjoyed what I was doing... otherwise it'd be Further.

What made Bio 3&4 so much better than 1&2?
I dropped out of lit to do half of bio 1/2. I found it mildly interesting, but I struggled with the content a bit. It sort of felt like an undercooked version of chemistry, so I find it hard to motivate.
3/4 truthfully went a lot better because I did really well on the first topic. I genuinely planned to tank 3/4 because I was certain it would be in my bottom two, but then we got our first SAC back and I got 100%. After that I kept going with the tanking and got 100% on the next SAC. Then I decided to take it more seriously and found that now it was clicking that I really enjoyed it. Six years and a degree in Biology later here I am :p
EDIT: two other fun tidbits. First, I only changed into biology from lit because my crush was doing biology in that block. Second, Biology is hands down the best subject for cracking jokes, which I think probably kept me going through 1/2 HAHA

Numbers 1 and 2 are really close together, bit of a toss up as I really love both of them, but I think in the end Chemistry just wins out because I like it more at the moment. English is a huge last place.

I've only got 5 subject to rank on VCE subjects as I won't include MUEP

This order would have changed around heaps throughout Year 12, but looking back on it now I think it'd go something like:
1. Chemistry 3/4
2. Specialist 3/4
3. Biology 3/4
4. Physics 3/4
5. Further 3/4
6. Methods 3/4
7. English 3/4
Pretty close around the top, but I think the first three really stuck out as my favourites because those courses had the broadest scope and the most variety in terms of content.

1. Biology - did this subject in year 11 and absolutely loved it
2. Specialist - hated 1/2 but when I started putting in a lot of effort in 3/4 it actually became quite a fun challenge
3. Methods - A bit boring at times but still a good subject
4. Latin - the historical part was incredible, but learning all the grammar was awful
5. Chemistry - never really put in enough effort to enjoy the subject since I knew it would be in my bottom two
6. English - I do not like writing essays

2. Accounting - i want to become a registered accountant cos i love this maths/business kinda thing!
3. Legal Studies - i have no idea why... but this is just my kinda thing! :-\ :D
4. Business Man. & Ops.- I like that these 'business-related' subjects are setting me up for work... but they r also quite boring ??? ::)

Just going to list the 3/4s:
1. Chemistry --> Super interesting and lots of real life application
2. Biology --> Sooo many facts and always able to learn to information
3. English --> Extended reading gives you cool insights
4. Methods
5. Psychology
6. French

In terms of my VCE 3/4's:
1. Biology --> Just found the course super interesting and it can be applied to everyday life.
2. Psychology --> Similar to biology, super practical and my teacher was super chill!
3. Japanese --> So interesting because its almost completely opposite to how english woks. I also find Japanese culture fascinating, although I'm not really into the whole anime scene.
4. Business Management --> Again, I liked the practicality of it, although it can be a bit dry. My teacher had a great personality though so it complemented nicely.
5. English --> Used to love English, but I just found the VCE course so boring. I did however enjoy our assigned books.
6. Mathematical Methods --> Lmao this subject made me want to cry so much, but it was worth it in the end. Probably gonna end up as my sixth but I think I did alight overall on the exam!
As you can see my chosen VCE subjects were quite broad. ;D

2. Biology (OMG soooo amazing. Love all the interconnectedness and gene expression and immunology)
3. P.E. (love how actually exercising and thinking about what you're doing counts as studying for P.E.)
4. Specialist (questions are so formulaic ... sweeeet)
5. Methods (as above, but the final question of each exam can be quite a fun challenge)
6. Chemistry (bad teachers, but still a great subject)

Sorry just saw this!
Methods - I ended up getting a tutor who was SUPER passionate about maths, so he really encouraged me to work a lot harder, and as a result I started doing a lot better. Also, my teacher was constantly encouraging my class to do better, and I think all ended up bonding quite a bit, which just made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
EngLang - started doing Tutoring at ATAR notes! Although it's not my strong suit and I don't love writing essays etc, Michael (tutor) made it seem more achievable and just easy to understand.
Chem was super easy last year, I had a good class and a good teacher. This year, there was a lot more content, and I didn't really like my new teacher. So I felt I had to teach it all myself, which sucked coz I didn't care for half the content etc etc
I actually did Philosophy 3/4 last year. I convinced myself I enjoyed it at the time so I would keep working, but it's only now upon reflection I realise how much I really didn't like it!

I didn't hate any of my subjects.Like even English was enjoyable like the syllabus itself was like really restrictive but i i guess i really liked having a subject where i could just ponder the reasons for existence and how our society as a whole was progressing even if it didn't always contribute to a higher mark. I also treated each of the modules as like a sort of a mini-game with its own rules and i actually enjoyed the idea that what i was learning was completely useless and would become obsolete the next year since it reduced the pressure to take it seriously.

5.Physics (i didn't really hate it but the syllabus was odd in that we needed to write long responses on social issues and stuff)

In terms of 3/4 subjects, I'd rank them:
1. Legal Studies
Favourite subject by far. Found the content really engaging and just enjoyed the subject overall.
2. Japanese
Was so different from all my other subjects and was fortunate enough to have a teacher who really made lessons engaging and pushed us to do well. As someone from a caucasian background, learning about Japanese culture and the language itself was really stimulating.
3. Business Management
Did this as a 3/4 in year 11. While the content was dry at times, overall I found it quite interesting (although not at the same level as Japanese and Legal!)
4. English
Enjoyed it overall! The only reason why it's further down the list is simply because I found the above subjects more enjoyable.
5. Accounting
Found this subject a little stressful. Think it was a product of both having a teacher that gave us extremely difficult coursework and a multitude of SACs (think we had about 8-9 all up), but probably more-so to do with it also being quite number-heavy. Not a maths person (as you can see below!)
6. Maths Methods
Not a numbers person! Did it simply to meet a course pre-req. which I didn't even end up pursuing :/

I honestly love my STEM subjects though, it is definitely hard to rank them. I love each and every one of these fields, but sometimes school can really suck the fun out of a topic - or it doesn't go as in depth as I would love to. If I had to rank these STEM fields based upon how much I loved them in general - ignoring how they are taught at school and what is in the syllabus - they would all be fighting for the #1 spot.
4. Study of Religion
Ethics is this subject's saviour.. If we didn't study ethics, SOR would be competing with English for my absolute least favourite subject
I just find it sooooo repetitive. I've learnt about the major world religions for like 4 years in a row... its killing me
5. General English
English doesn't even deserve to be on the list... I have always hated this subject. 1. it's boring, 2. it's repetitive, 3. it's pointless... I don't understand why they can't just give us an English grade based off of the assignments we do for other subjects... why do we need a whole subject? I know this is gonna sound controversial but here I go... SHAKESPEARE WILL NEVER HELP ME IN LIFE...
I must say though, shout out to literally lauren for making English seem so so interesting and actually enjoyable! I left the QUT English lecture in September wishing Lauren was my English teacher - if she was I wouldn't have a single complaint about English... (Lauren if you see this, please be my English teacher. Thank you 😉 )

That's great! I started out that way as well. Back in primary school I would watch a LOOT of videos on the universe and what not and soon that transitioned into contest Physics and now a degree in Physics!
I guess my question for you is: do you believe M-theory is the true unified field theory? :)
Ouch now that is the most interesting question. The big thing is IF M-theory is proven true we will finally have a way to bring together General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics.
What usually happens and has happened throughout the history of Physics is we come up with laws and theories, and then more research is done and we find out those Laws are a VERY small subset of a bunch of greater Laws. For example Newtonian Mechanics for hundreds of years was considered to be correct but that Einstein published Relativity and we find that Newtons Laws are actually a subset of the equations Einstein came up with in relativity. By making a few assumptions you can bring them out. So I guess what I would say is all the theories we have now MAY be correct including M-theory but it's HIGHLY likely that they are a simplification of an even more grand theory or Law that we are yet to discover.
The biggest problem for Physicists is figuring out gravity. There are so many theories but all fail when it comes to explaining Gravity.

These scientists are great at getting people interested in the matter and it's amazing the passion they have.
The most notable one would be Richard Feynann. Watch his youtube video on him explaining fire. You will be amazed. He was probably the best ever at explaining concepts.

It's hard to embrace the frustration when it must count towards your atar no matter what. As a STEM student my atar could've been much higher than what is was. Even though I don't care about my atar or about the matter anymore when I was in high school it was hard to just embrace it.

Did bio as a 3/4 and thought that no subject could be better but I actually really liked my year 12 subjects in general. Never really been too fond of LOTE classes though, every lesson just gives you a clearer idea of the extent of your ignorance.
Edit; also did 1/2 geo and this was the WORST (probs bc of my teacher tbh). Can conclusively say that the whole class learnt nothing at all. In the end winged the exam got a 95% and even then, this mark was not enough to convince me to keep it in yr12. Frustration was at an all time high, I always did bio in geo and considered it as my spare which contributed to the teacher absolutely hating me. I loved all my yr 12 teachers, super knowledgeable and hardworking but this particular teacher wasn’t very confident at all, let students trample her and it felt like her knowledge was limited (struggled to interpret graphs in the textbooks etc)

1. Further (easy, cool teacher, class full of chill kids)
2. Chem (good subject which was the only subject that made sense to me apart from further but with a boring teacher who was also my bio teacher, luckily VCAA went easy on us for the exam)
3. Methods (good subject, great teacher but horrible exams from VCAA)
Wall of shame:
4. Bio (boring teacher, extremely pedantic and unfair marking from VCAA)
5. English (had a great teacher but the subject itself is terrible. I'm certain if it were not compulsory no one would do it)
6. French (had an extremely abusive teacher, the details of what happened aren't appropriate for the forum)

I'm including both my Year 11 and 12 subjects, I completed VCE for reference 8)
1. Psychology (interesting content, had the same amazing teacher for two years, my SACs were always switched up and varied and required me to learn content in different ways, overall great subject)
2. Legal Studies (really interesting and somewhat useful content, definitely more difficult and had draining bits but overall was a rewarding subject area to learn about)
3. English (I'm a total English > Math kid– specifically loved finding different themes in texts and relating them to my world, but the pressure of essay writing brings it down a few spots)
4. Further Mathematics/General Mathematics (took me a lot of effort to get my head around certain concepts but the feeling of successfully completing maths problems is so rewarding, also applicable to daily life despite popular opinion)
5. Biology (loved the idea of Bio, love learning and reading about scientific concepts in books and podcasts, but didn't enjoy the assessments– scored pretty average and didn't need it so I dropped it, but I think if I had put in a bit more effort it would have been better)
6. Visual Communication and Design (its last because I picked it up in Year 12 and struggled a LOT with catching up lol but studying VCD made me realise how much I didn't like studying the fine arts and am much more of a theory/reading/essay person. Was still overall a great experience that taught me to think outside the box and problem solve)

I just finished year 11, idk how much different year 12 will be hmm. I decided to rate them too because why not.
1. methods ( Half the questions are easy and I am lazy so that's great, the other half are kind of challenging and pretty fun to work out. I give it a 10/10 )
2. spesh ( It's just spicy methods. I just started 3/4 and the working in some questions is so disgusting omg wtf. This subject is a 9/10 )
3. physics ( The content is very interesting and I like it a lot. I hate pracs though so it's a 9/10 )
4. further ( I haven't done this subject yet, but orientation was very fun revisiting stuff we learnt in primary school. 8/10 because most of the 'useful relevant to real life math' is just common sense or cas stuff. )
5. theatre studies ( I only did this subject because I had a spare subject and my friend was in the class. It isn't really my type of subject, I'm dropping it for further. 5/10 )
5 Chinese ( It's a bit hard and not that fun. Rating it a solid -8/10 )
6 English ( This subject is even worse than Chinese and doesn't even make up for it in scaling. Sounds like a massive scam and it gets forced into your top four. -∞/10 )

Hi guys, this is my first non-subject specific post on atarnotes. Here are my rankings!
1. Englang: My favourite and most hated subject at the same time. I loved discussing different essay plans and different ways to explain language features with my friends on a daily basis but I also hated the amount of work involved as well as the amount of stress I had when I got bad feedback. The amount of dedication and investment I had for this subject along with how much i bonded with friends over this subject would have made it impossible for this not to be no.1
2. Spesh: Introduced me to a so many new concepts in maths that I really loved and was super engaged by. Highly recommend as this subject imo involves the 'fun and interesting' parts of maths.
3. Biology: Did this subject in year 11 and loved it. Was always fascinated with biology from year 8 all the way to year 11 and doing it in vce really engaged me throughout all of year 11. Never felt like i was really 'studying' when i worked on biology because it was so interesting and engaging.
4. Methods: Though this subject involved less abstract and conceptually interesting ideas than spesh i enjoyed this subject because the really hard questions at the end of exams (like the inverse function ones etc.) were kind of like puzzles and forced me to think really thoroughly and deeply. Really intellectually stimulating subject and also the easy parts were lowkey satisfying to cruise through.
5. Psychology: Loved learning this subject and had a really great teacher. Doing this subject in year 12 was great because studying it and doing practice questions always reminded me of doing biology. Did not enjoy how vague and ridiculous some questions in the exams were though.
6. Chemistry: I kind of neglected chemistry throughout the year and while I was really interested by concepts like redox and equilibria, I never got invested enough to the point where I could really have a passion for this subject. (Maybe that will happen in uni)
