Title: Schoolies 2020 Edition
Post by: AngelWings on November 06, 2020, 05:43:08 pm
With the pandemic going on this year, it’s highly likely that most graduating students this year won’t be able to go on a grand Schoolies like other years e.g. interstate trip to the Gold Coast.

Class of 2020, how do you plan to celebrate Schoolies or instead of Schoolies? What ideas do you have for a more “local” (and socially distanced) celebration, if you plan to do so?

If you’re not from the Class of 2020, what would you pick if you were finishing this year?

...Can you please explain what this 'Schoolies' concept is, in the first place? Thank you.

Here’s a Wikipedia article to get you started. Schoolies is usually a week-long trip about a week after Year 12 exams end to celebrate the end of high school. The most (in)famous version is the one that heads to the Gold Coast which typically has a big party with DJs and everything. Others usually head to Phillip Island to get some much needed R&R.

The entire trip is usually self-funded and self-planned across the year (often with your friends), but there are some companies out there that usually organise accommodation and itinerary for you if you’re going to the more well-known locations.

With the current situation, Schoolies plans have been cancelled, changed or up in the air, due to the ever-changing restrictions. I was hoping to see what people are doing this year in its place or what plans people have in mind to cater for the coronavirus and the restrictions we now live in.

For an anecdotal example: My version of Schoolies back in the day was a trip to Port Fairy, where I went with a couple of friends to one of their relative’s house for about a week shortly after my final exam and Year 12 formal.

When I finished I literally went back to my school and planted trees instead of going to Schoolies lol. 😂

How I plan to celebrate is by doing all the things I couldn't throughout the year: have unreserved fun with family, get back to all my hobbies, finish the novel I'm working on, continue to learn word-for-word the book of Hebrews, etc.! Who needs a trip when there's so much fun stuff to do at home? :D

I was never planning on schoolies as it was never my thing to "party hard," however I have two things planned.

Experiment and make cocktails whilst rewatching all the sherk movies with a friend.

And, when peak holiday season is over, i'm going on a road trip potentially on the great ocean road with a friend, if I can get my license in time by early February.

When I graduated, I went on a cruise in January (so after Schoolies season but during my holidays before uni). It was arguably the best trip I've been to date in my life  :D I also went to my friend's house pretty much every free day after my HSC and we just played Overcooked 2 together. As for what I would've done if I graduated this year, I probably would've done the same thing minus the cruise and with 10 times more Overcooked 2 games  8)
