Title: Going from Essential/General Maths to Methods, please help
Post by: dudleygb on August 19, 2021, 02:20:59 pm
Hi all,

Really glad I found this forum, I need to ask some advice please.
My daughter is in Year 10 and moved schools in May/June. Since she started at the new school, its very plain that the old school wasn't very big on Maths and Science etc. We have discovered that they were teaching Essential/Numeracy and only since she started at the new school, is it very plain to see that the standard is much higher, encouraging students to aim for Math Methods or Specialist Maths, as this will really help in getting the ATAR for most uni courses.

As such we are working feverishly hard at trying to improve her Maths averages, they are currently very low, as in an E for the last exam. She is trying Year 10 Advanced Maths and really wants to get into Math Methods next year so she can take chem and physics.
We have a tutor twice a week and she is doing extra maths at the school. We have until the end of the year to improve he average maths mark so she can get into year 11 methods. Could you study guides help us at all? We're trying to do a lot of algebra catch up, ignoring trig as its not really in maths methods syllabus.

thanks for the response, but the desire to get back up to standard is coming from her not us, she wants to try give it a good go before the end of the year. I'm just trying to find anything I can to support her decision.
