Post by: Owlbird83 on August 31, 2021, 04:15:31 pm
What is a random topic you are interested in that most people don't know a lot about? (could be anything from specific parts of history/areas of popculture/hobbies/animals/fandoms/etc)

And please share any interesting facts!

My niche appears to be YA fiction written by Australian authors.

I have several topics that most people don't know about (or care about) unless they know me in which case they absolutely know about them (and they still don't care about them.
There's this singer named Amira Willighagen.
There's this composer named Alma Deutscher.
There's this brilliant seven book series (not to be confused with a trilogy) named The Chronicles of Narnia.

I can recite nearly every single unit and their special ability from Red Alert 3 (really old game, but still lots of fun.)

I'm also really into cybersecurity (specifically hacking, although still learning). If you want a bit of a Q&A from a n00b h@XX0R (because thats definitely how we speak) then feel free to reply.

I adore the study of weather, meteorology and climatology, but not to the point where I'd like to study it as a career.
I have a rainfall chart, mapping out the yearly totals in my town, according to BOM, as well as frequently check past weather records and historical weather events.
For example, when I had a day trip in Melbourne in Year 11, at about 1:30PM I got on a tram, it was 41 degrees Celsius, the wind blew around sand and it felt like an oven on the face. When I got off the tram, I checked the temperature again and it was about 21 degrees, and a bit more humid.
I had gone from summer, dusty heatwave to a nice, relaxing spring afternoon just by hopping on a tram. And Melbourne is extremely lucky to have such interesting weather.

I have some photos! I keep Cherry Shrimp (the variant is called fire cherry - I breed them to create an extremely vibrant red) and another species called Darwin Algae Eaters, which are native to Australia and grow larger than cherries. Cherry shrimp are very small - my largest is about 3.5cm but the average adult is 2-3cm. The Darwins can get up to 5-6cm. They're all fantastic and SOOO cute and if you put your hand in the tank and keep still they will come out and clean your skin! The best manicurists ever :DDD

And please share any interesting facts!

Most frogs are not forklift certified.

My big ones at the moment are probably twisty puzzles (like Rubik's cubes etc.), and Super Mario 64 speedruns.

I'm not good at either (particularly SM64 - never even finished the game), but consuming a lot of content from those areas.
