I have a vague idea how the ATAR is calculated.
Just want to get an idea where the SACS fit in terms of ranking and scaling. I heard in some schools they are scaled up/down depending on how strong the overall cohort is – is this done after comparing them to the exam results?
Also, can a student with a SAC ranking #1 in a strong cohort (e.g. Melbourne High) and 100% find their SAC scores scaled down if the first ranked student in the exam scores less than a 100%?
Cheers

Hey Carmelo,
I've written an extensive guide on everything you need to know about SACs and scaling, which you can read here
But if you're looking for a quick answer, a SAC ranking #1, no matter the strength of the cohort, will be seen by VCAA as a full mark. However, it doesn't take the number 1 rank to score 100% for the exam in order for your exam results to scale up
