Title: CREATIVE RESPONSE HELP - REAR WINDOW ENGLISH
Post by: jazzy123 on January 25, 2022, 03:33:38 pm
much needed help... i need to do a creative piece for rear window and my chosen task is:
         • Imagine you are Stella at home with your husband. She recounts what she has observed about L.B Jefferies and her observations concerning the romance between him and Lisa.

I am stuck on how to include fine details because I want to explore Stella's insight of Jeff's character and focus on his perception of love and marriage... but also his loneliness and the loneliness of the community and how gender roles intertwine in the film.

WOULD BE GREAT IF SOMEONE COULD HELP WITH SOME IDEAS... THANKSSSS :)

Hi Jazzy,

For starters I had done Rear Window as a text response so I hope I could help you.

- I think first you need to make her voice correct which I reckon would be how she is someone who says what she wants or is uncharacteristic for a women in that era.
- You need to show her view in marriage which was different from that of Jeff in the sense on how she believed in "true love" or how people could start liking each other.
- You could show the shift in her character on how she slowly started to find Jeff theory of Anna Thorwald murder interesting
- You could show how the character was someone who liked to make jokes about situation
- You could kind of give an idea on how Stella did belived that Lisa and Jeff were perfect for each other.

Here are some points I hope it helps you

Hi jazzy123! The key thing to remember is that your creative piece shouldn't be an essay - so avoid at all cost an extensive monologue that's just you writing your understanding of Jeff/Lisa, but in Stella's voice.

You have great opportunities for insightful comments/comparisons here because you've got Stella/husband vs Lisa/Jeff - why not use that to make your points about their relationship(s)? As you've been told from primary school - show don't tell! What point do you want to make about Lisa/Jeff and how can you use Stella/husband to show that? For example, if you want to make a point about how Jeff doesn't really know Lisa, you could maybe have husband do something for Stella before she even asks, or possibly the other way - Stella has to ask him to do something to show that both men are not that great in their relationships.

I've got some tips here (https://youtu.be/Gzw7RKGzCWc) about demonstrating themes in your creative if that's helpful :)
