Title: The story of English - ABC (lots of potential quotes here for essays)
Post by: Joseph41 on March 01, 2022, 01:43:13 pm
"When Professor Kate Burridge began studying linguistics, she became fascinated with the story of Old English, which emerged from a rainy island off the coast of Europe after 450 AD.

The influence of Germanic tribes, by Norse-speaking Vikings and by the French-speaking Normans began its slow progression into the language we recognise today.

Kate also has a special affection for Australian slang, and the magnificently raucous slang phrases we've coined and exported to the rest of the world. "

There are genuinely hundreds and hundreds of potential quotes to use here from Professor Kate Burridge (a prominent Australian linguist if you are unfamiliar). The interview is from late 2021 and goes for about 50 minutes. If you have the time, I really recommend having a casual listen and jotting down any quotes you find interesting or potentially useful.

For anybody who listens, does anything in particular from the interview strike out to you?
