Title: How do the GA's in Units 3/4 work? and who determines them? VCAA or my school?
Post by: shadman on April 16, 2022, 12:57:09 pm
Say if hypothetically someone were to get a UG for the their first SAC on Bio 3/4 would that contribute to a UG as their GA1 on their statement of marks or is it decided by VCAA which is the official authoritative body?

Hey,

Graded assessments (GA's) are different to SACs and every subject has 3 GA's. In subjects with 1 exam (e.g. Bio), GA1 is your unit 3 SAC average (there are 2 SACs, so just find the average mark of that), GA2 is your unit 4 SAC average (3 SACs here) and GA3 is the final exam worth 60%.

If you got a UG in your 1st SAC then that doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a UG for GA1 since you've still got the next SAC. Plus, passing a GA shouldn't be dependent on your SACs but rather your coursework like notes, textbook questions etc.

Btw, you need to pass at least 2 GA's to receive a study score.

Note: In subjects with 2 exams (e.g. maths), GA1 is your average SAC mark for both units 3 and 4, GA2 is exam 1 and GA3 is exam 2.

I hope that wasn't too confusing!
