Title: Methods Study Score
Post by: Sarah_w55 on June 30, 2022, 10:06:58 pm
Hi guys, I had a horrible first SAC (am yet to receive my mark but I know it's going to be very low), but I felt quite prepared going into it and was averaging high 80s low 90s on all of my practice SACs which were from a range of schools which are known for having pretty challenging SACs. The SAC was just very abstract and open-ended, and it just felt like such an unfair SAC which did not reflect my abilities seeing as my topic test average (the tests are all comprised of past exam questions) is 90%. Seeing as I understand the concepts well and am able to complete most exam questions with quite a high success rate at this stage, is it still possible for me to achieve my goal of a 40 SS?

Yes a 40+ SS is still possible. 1 sac score will not determine whether you get a 40 or not.

I know someone who virtually full marked the exam but received a 46 S.S in MM - he was quite surprised and decided to follow up with the school (turns out the school gave him someone else's SAC rank instead). Once the SACs were amended, he ended up scoring a 50.

Theoretically, if you were ranked last in your cohort and full marked the exam (this will realistically never happen), you'd actually only end up with something like a 41 study score (if you maxed your z-scores on the exam, you'd get something like 66% * 3 + 33% * -3 = 1 total z-score - which realistically means you're 1 standard dev above the mean.

Mathematically that means that you'd get a ~37 study score. So theoretically the lowest max S.S you could get is a 37 (assuming you get 0% on all your SACs).

Obviously that's not your situation so i'd say that a 40+ is very achievable from wherever you are!
