Hello everyone
I've signed up for Cisco 1+2 this year (Yr 11) but I was wondering just how hard it is.
I mean, I really want the bonus ( ;D) but does it require any effort to get it?
-
I found it challenging- but it wasn't majorly hard.
I completed it in year 10 though, so maybe doing it in year 11 would ease the difficulty slightly. I'm very i.t focussed though- so although it was a challenge, I loved doing it much more than the typical 'VCE' subjects offered.
It was also used in the calculation of my ENTER- so that was a big bonus.
Work hard, and try to understand the theory- and you'll notice that you're getting better in your practical exams. Don't be put off by your mark in the first module exam- I progressed and my marks improved throughout the year.
Good luck- and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
-
Thanks for your advice!
I'm looking forward to it!!!
-
No worries.
I just hope that you're in a class with motivated people- my class only had 3 people and I was the only one that passed. The others spent $1000 on playing noughts and crosses and chatting up girls in the toilets. Erghh. xD
-
Well actually, we may have two classes (still being decided)!
So probably about 35 people doing it. I can find some motivated people I think :)
-
35 people?! Last year our class only had about 12!
-
excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is cisco?
-
@tcg93: Sorry, it's actually now a bit less (around 20)
@stonecold: It is a VCE/VET IT subject based on computer networking. You can take just 1/2 or 1/2 and 3/4.
No score is derived from Cisco, however if you pass, you receive a bonus of 10% of the average of your top 4 subjects (if you do 3/4 as well, it becomes 20%).
EDIT: 600th post! :D

@the.watchman Is Mr Pountney still teaching cisco this year?

Yup he is indeed!
Are you a Camberwell Grammarian as well???
-
Yep
-
^ reallyy does just doing cisco 3/4 as well give you 20% of your top 4 ;O
so if you got all 40's then you'd get a +8?!
that's crazy!

Well, that's if you do two years of Cisco, but yes it would be a bonus of +8
And, if you do lots of scaling subjects (like Latin, Spesh etc.), then this may become a +10 :D
EDIT: However, my holy intentions do not include doing both Cisco 1/2 and 3/4 ... :(
-
...But remember if you do both 1/2 and 3/4 it counts as your 5th and 6th subjects (takes two slots)

Good point! It's almost automatically better than any 5th or 6th subject you can do though...

Yeah, only way it can be worse is if you do worse in English as compared with your other subjects. Pretty smart to do one.

Yep, now I can bludge a subject if Yr 12 becomes all too much :P
(Not that I'd want to...)

Yep and apart from English stuffing up your average, a Uni Enhancement subject with an 5.0 or 5.5 increment would be better than the second Cisco bonus

I suppose ...
CISCO RULZ!!! :D

I'm going to have done the Cisco 1/2 and the 3/4 for the 20% bonus. Expecting ~4.5 for each of the bonuses :) Cisco is incredible if you're good at English and have a strong top four.

And if you're doing Latin and Spesh :D

*And if you're topping French :)
